Today is the day! I have long dabbled but not committed to being me…today is the day I step up and start experiencing who I am. I have dressed in private for years, and just the past weekend I told my wife, and today I told my brother. What’s next? I don’t know but I am so thrilled to be me!

@leainvancouver Thank you Lea! The turning point was I read something about life is short…and really wanted to get my toenails painted…isn’t that funny? So I told her I was going to do this…

Hi Rachael, welcome to CDH.

It sounds like your wife and brother took your news very well, which is tremendous. I'm sure you'll have lots of questions after "What's next?", so don't be shy in asking them here. We love to chat, and this is a wonderfully supportive sisterhood to be part of.

Hi Rachael,

Welcome to CDH.

Telling your wife and brother must have lifted a weight from your shoulders, but I imagine it was also quite scary, so well done for that!

You’ll find this is a very friendly and supportive place and it’s definitely the right place to begin the next phase of your life.

There’s such a wide range of experiences here, you’ll certainly not feel alone

@rachaelkendall562 Well done you! You could not have come to a better place for company and support on the next stage of your journey. We're all at different places but share our love of femininity.

Welcome home, Rachael.

@cdashley I would say she was cautiously supportive. More worried I would leave her for a man. I told her that’s not the plan. The other day I asked her to tell me if it’s too much, and she replied to tell her if it’s not enough. But she hasn’t asked me since…so we’ll see

@rachaelkendall562 my welcome also.  In the coming weeks, your wife may have more questions and concerns.  My only advice is to be truthful a sincere in your answers.  Ease  into it as most SOs are not enthusiastic at first .  Here you will get caring and understanding from your family of sisters.  You are home

@missylinda Thank you Lorraine - This is so helpful. I hope my wife asks questions so I can share more…but I know that while I’ve been working on me for years, this is new to her…Love your comment about “I am home”…

Hi Rachael

Welcome to CDH 🙂

Coming out to family is terrifying - I came out to my Mum and my sister last summer, so I'm speaking from experience!

At the time I was making a lot of changes very quickly, and getting a little lost in the pink fog. It was a bit intoxicating a couple of good friends on here reined me back in and counselled me to approach things a bit more cautiously. If there's no need to rush, why do so?

Better to slow down, think each thing through and take everything a step at a time.

That won't work for everybody, but in my case it was very good advice 🙂

Good luck!

Hugs

That's how I felt after I got my first makeover.  When I looked in the mirror I knew it was time.  Seeing what I'd felt my whole life was the catalyst for everything that followed.  OMG so many things I never expected.  Peeling away layers of a mask to find the real me.  I'm a different person today.

Congratulations!  I'm so happy for you.  You're going to learn so much about yourself!

Welcome to CDH!

This is a huge step, so don't take it lightly. Do your research, get advice and therapy.

Welcome, and congratulations on you being you. I know the feeling of dressing to some degree or other for so.eti.e, and then realizing that it is just who you are. It lifts such a burden.

Well done , you are still you but in a different wrapper , that's how my wife see,s me and she has no problems at all infact she helps me buy clothes and gives make up hints and tips .If we out shopping and thinks I would like something she says do you think your sister would like that ? it's a code that works for us . Who knows what the future will bring , just enjoy yourself and be happy .

Thank you so much Stephanie! My wife and I have talked, but right now she hasn’t brought it up more. Now that I’ve talked with her I want to fully commit to being me…With a bob cut, feminine clothes and shoes, and maybe, maybe some lip and eye makeup in front of her…but I will give it time. Hugs!
