Hi Bobby.  I know how it feels, sweetie.  I'm also a big girl.  There are great stores to go to.  Lane Bryant, Torrid & Catherine's are my mainstays.  Torrid, especially.  They are so CD friendly and they will be extremely helpful in finding your size.

WigsBuy has an excellent selection of large size wigs. Paula Young...not so much, but still they do have large size wigs available, but usually in a short style. I have bought off e-bay, but with only one exception, I wasn't satisfied. The one exception was where they listed the maker and the size.

Macy's and JC Penny's - if they are open in your area - usually have a fair selection of Plus Size women's clothing for a (usually) reasonably price. Walmart, not so much. They pretty much sell casual styles and generally not so good quality.

The online retailers like ebay and Amazon, both carry plus women's clothing. Ebay does a much better job with their sizing information. Beware Asian plus sizes. For example, a US size 2 X is closer to an Asian size 5 X. Likewise, beware of UK sizes. A US size 20 W is equal to a UK size 22W or 24W. The Amazon sizing charts do NOT account for this. Look for the retailer's measurements.

There are some very good online and in store retailers like Torrid and Catherine's, that have very good selections and high quality women's plus size clothing. Torrid size tends to run small. If you are a 2X, go with Torrid 3X. Both tend towards the expensive - if high quality side.

Hint: Look at how stretchy that the fabric is listed. Spandex and artificial fabrics tend to be much more stretchy than cotton or wool.

There are also some very good online only retailers like Roamans's, Old Pueblo Traders, Anthony Richards, AmeriMark, and Dressbarn are just a few of the online retailers that also have good selections and high quality women's plus size clothing.

Finally, you can browse the thrift shops. Be prepared to spend a lot of time if you do that and don't expect to find a bonanza of clothing. Still, you can get lucky from time to time. Boutiques that specialize in plus sizes, are a better bet.

Shoes sizing is a bit more difficult. However, you can usually add one or two sizes to your men's size and come up with a reasonably close women's size. eg: if you wear a men's size 8.5 or 9, a women's size 10 to 11 generally works. Remember, you wear fairly thick socks with your men's shoes, however, when you wear women's shoes, you often wear nylons/pantyhose or knee-highs. So, if you buy a pair of woman's shoes that you intend to wear thick socks, go up that 2 sizes.

One other thing to remember; look for a good set of hip enhancers. Believe it or not, the hip are one of the most important things that give you a feminine look. Men generally have broad shoulders and a narrow butt/hips. Women tend to have a more hourglass body. Most people tend to look at the shape of a body rather than at the details, like the face and everything else. There is an outfit called DressTech that produces a couple of types of hip enhancers. They have an (expensive) silicone version and a more economically priced foam version. You get what you pay for. Avoid the "butt enhancers panties. They don't work for beans.

Bra's: see below, because it's going to depend on what sort of breast form that you use.

Breast forms:. There are many choices and and I actually use three. There are two types of silicone breast forms. Self-adhesive and non-self adhesive. I love silicone breast forms for their realistic feel. However, they are heavy and if you are going to use a regular bra, you'd best use the self-adhesive type - otherwise you run a risk of the breast form slipping out. Awkward! An alternative is to use a post mastectomy or a pocket bra with a non-self-adhesive breast form. These work well, feel right, but if you want to wear a strapless dress...not so well. Use a foam breast form instead. I'm going to do another post on the use of foam breast forms. Ebay, Amazon are good sources as well as Kohl'e and JC Penny's online

Finally, invest in a soft fabric measuring tape...the type that they use in a tailor shop. This will help you get into the right size.

I hope that this helps you. Please keep asking questions...it's the only way to learn. I hope that I didn't overwhelm you. Hugs, Renee.

I've had some similar issues, finding clothes is a pain especially in larger sizes. I usually get some from eBay. Granted you can look at outlet places, Goodwill's, or the likes. I know Walmart has a pus section, but it's lacking(my mom shops in that section, so I hear the stories). If you don't mind the online route there's also JMS(Just My Size) they usually have a good selection there.

I'd say check online for better deals, or thrift stores and Goodwill's for some too. Hope you find something.

Hi Bobby,

Welcome to CDH.

Target has started a plus size clothing line so you might find some tops or jeans to try on and help find your size.

I like to shop at Catherines which carries up to a 6X size.  The clearance racks often have some great deals.  It’s more difficult now as many stores are just starting to reopen.  There are restrictions in place such as the changing rooms are still closed.  The associates are great and the stores are CD friendly.  The associates can help you with fashion advice and the sizing.   The on-line selection is wider and shipping to the store is free. Their shoes run wide and they carry up to size 12.

Lane Bryant has lovely sleepwear and lingerie.  The sizing is to a 3X (26/28).  With the pandemic the associates have stopped personal contact for bra fittings but I’ve heard they are doing virtual fittings.

Torrid carries larger sizes up to 5X.  Due to the pandemic they have closed the fitting rooms but the associates can help you with suggestions.  They are also CD friendly.  And they seem like they will be reopening stores shortly.  Wait for the sales.  Often you’ll find on the clearance buy one get one.  Their shoes run wide too.  They carry up to size 12.

Alice

I get some of my skirts and dresses from drag stores online but if you take your measurements and go on Amazon you'll have no problem. As for wigs you can either go to someone to get a professional wig try on like a makeup artist or try a drag store online. I very much prefer the makeup artist cause I'll need a custom fit. Hope it helps 😁

Beware of Asian sizes. The Amazon generic size charts do not match up with Asian or UK size charts.
