Hi all,

Im relatively new to the scene here! I live here in Austin Texas and a fresh 30 years old.

Im a male powerlifter that presents as highly masculine who happens to love being feminine and a woman in private and dress up as a lady (I know... haha please don't try to psychoanalyze that. I'm actually an LCSW and it's a rabbit hole). I don't have feelings of Gender Dysphoria, just being me, myself, and I.

Im here looking for support and advice as my "figure" is particularly difficult and seems different than most folks. To give you an idea, im 5'11" with shoulders 26" wide, and a band size of 52" Most of me is muscular and a particularly large chest and back. I say this as i find it like impossible to shop for anything that isn't custom. That and I have facial hair that will grow out to a high shadow twice a day (when i shave).

So im trying to find advice from folks that can relate to some of those challenges if there is anyone. I don't think i will ever be able to "pass" according to how some define it but i'd like to get to the point where i feel sexy and confident enough to go out in public as a woman.

Alright so that me in a nutshell. lol. Thanks for reading, and i hope to hear from you all 🙂

I lift regularly, not power lifter, but I'm a 46"band(plus small B pecs), 36 in waist and 41 inch hips.

I used to worry about that incessantly. I think that you need to find the fashion that YOU like, adapt it to work with you body. Sure, maybe you'll have to get some things altered... Start with stuff from second hand or thrift shops, see what you like. Maybe you spend $12 on a used dress and $20 more getting the waist taken in so that it isn't a tent based on chest size, you still aren't out much. Also, if you find a small Mom&Pop alteration shop, they will usually be happy for business, and not care so much about it being a CD. I came to accept this at a local sister owned wig shop. They were glad SOMEONE bought a wig, period.

Makeup is makeup no matter who you are, practice practice practice... learn to shave close and cover the beard shadow. Also, less is more with makeup... focus on you eye shadow.

2 more things:

Given my dress size issues, I have found that going with little to NO stuffing in my bra, seems to work. I look more like a "chick that lifts" instead of strapping on DD filling in a giant bra. Food for thought.

Lastly, you've seen female body builders, There's clothes for them. They figure it out... Put on a slinky little spandex mini dress, do your makeup and hair, get out there and have some fun girl!!!

All the best,

Rayna xoxo

Hi Diana,

Warm welcomes! Have you ever hear of Janae Kroc? Google her. And there is a movie about her on Amazon called Transformer. She was a professional power lifter who transitioned. Her journey is interesting.

Thank you so much for the reply and suggestions, Rayna! I think ill have to poke at my local network and see if there is someone who will do alterations. The tent dress life is a struggle.

And, that's what i hear. I think my makeup game needs some more work. We are lucky here in Austin to have a few CD/TS makeover salons. I might have to give them a shot and get some pro advice on what would look/work best.

I went to a place in the Bay Area here in CA that caters to CD girls. But I have also talked to the folks at the Sephora and Ulta shops, they will do a makeover and tutorial on any guy or girl that wants one. They don't care. The trick to that, you have to sit there and let the world walk by seeing you get a makeover, big choice.

I found early on, the one on one tutorials at CD/TG friendly places are best when you're still finding yourself.

Watch lots of videos, especially the ones that are done for TG transition learning. They are less geared to looking like a drag queen and more like girl next door for beginners.

You'll do it all wrong for a while, we all do... just keep at it and don't let it get you down. I nearly cried the first time I did makeup at home. Then I took lessons, and practiced, and I don't cry lol. I'm not "happy" but I'm not despondent after a practice session now. It's like building any muscle, lots of reps sister...

Hugs,

Rayna

Hi Diana,

Welcome to CDH.  As others have stated there are women power lifters too.  They have their clothing custom made so you may need to follow that route.  Find stretch fabrics to start and see how they work for you.  No doubt dance or theater companies make custom designed costumes.  Check out what may be available near you.

Finding bras in big band and small cup sizes can be tricky.  Try Hanes Brands/Just My Size.  Before the pandemic they provided bra fittings and can order sizes for you if not available in the store

Hi diane. Hey....I've been dealing with an almost verbatim experience you've been having.  But I was like this since age 6 and long before I knew what sex was. This is a very supportive environment that helps girls like us feel not alone.
