Hey all,
just wanted to share a moment from a lovely weekend I’ve just had.
I’m in the uk and have been lucky enough to meet a friend through CDH who is local(ish) to me and we have been able to meet up and have some nice girly time together, all behind closed doors still, we are both still not brave enough/ready for the outside world yet! They helped introduce me to hair and make up which has been a wonderful experience and leads to my reason for posting here.
So anyway, with their help and guidance I purchased all the essentials make up wise online with the exception of foundation and concealer as it’s a tricky business finding the right match for skin tone. I realised this was something I would have to actually visit a shop and ask for help with, which is a huge step for lil ol’ Me lol. Anyway, I plucked up the courage on Saturday morning to stop via a relatively local Boots chemist near me to get the last pieces of the puzzle and then carry on to visit my friend. I’m in drab of course lol.Walked in to Boots full of nerves and after a little lurking braved approaching 3 sales ladies having a chat to ask for help. The youngest of the 3, a lovely lady didn’t bat an eyelid and whisked me away to a relatively private seat and while chatting away to me asking what I was looking to do etc had cleansed and primed my face, scanned it with an awesome little gizmo and gone off and grabbed a concealer, whisked out a little brush and started happily applying it. All nerves had disappeared by this point, she had really put me at ease! She showed me every step in a little mirror and threw out little tips here and there, did my foundation and a different concealer around the eyes, and before I knew it my face was beautifully done! We were happily chatting all the way through about what supplies I already have and my dressing in general and wow! A 10/15 minute session had flown by and I was stood at the counter paying for my new purchases, with an invite to head back any time and ask for her and she would happily help with any further guidance. I was over the moon, she really made my day and banished all those fears, I could not thank her enough for her help! I had previously decided I was stopping in another shop after to pick up a couple of items for myself and it wasn’t until I was halfway round the other shop I realised I was there in drab but with beautifully done foundation on my face still!! Wasn’t fussed in the slightest, and nobody took any notice. went and paid for my new clothes, stroller back to the car and continued on to my friends and the weekend got better from there!
All I can say is: don’t be scared of doing things for your femme self, there are people out there that are more than happy to help and nobody gives a damn about what your buying/doing.
Just had to share a positive experience out and about in the real world

Thank you for sharing your story.
And you are sooooo right. Don't be afraid to do things or your fem side.
Years ago I went to a drug store to buy makeup. I was so overwhelmed by the selection and so afraid to ask for help that I left.
Fast forward. One year on my birthday I treated myself to a MAC tutorial. Learned so much. The best gift I could give myself.
And I found like others have there are many people out there that are more than pleased to help you.

Thanks for sharing your experience Rachel, must have been nerve wracking but at the same time so exciting to be doing something traditionally so feminine in public. Hopefully the more of us just do things like this the more it will ‘desensitise’ the general public, to normalise it.
Also think it illustrates that most of the barriers we face are perhaps in our own heads !

That's absolutely fantastic Rachel, what a great experience, I'll have to try that myself. It's all a bit daunting and intimidating from the outside but your experience gives me a little confidence to go for it and do it myself.

So glad for you.
