As my life has pretty much become a revolving door between winter job in Arizona, my job in Nebraska/ South Dakota and my family in Wisconsin/ Minnesota I get plenty of drive time between them. I was heading East on I-90 through South Dakota going to the Lake States for Thanksgiving with family. Of course I was all done up head to toe in my most feminine "road trip" finery. Somewhere around the state line of Western Minnesota I started plotting the remainder of my trip, I was expected nowhere until tomorrow so where to stay and what to do for this evening??? LaCrosse was a college town on the east side of the Mississippi and could be fun. I pulled over at a Way Side to stretch my legs then started a quick "search" on my cell phone. I started with Gay bars since I have had some good times in same, but nothing stood out. I searched "friendliest bars" in LaCrosse and of the multiple winners was a small bar in the middle of the historic downtown area that was owned by a gay couple "Thrunies". I called the phone number and a very pleasant young lady answered, "Is your bar friendly to Crossdressers? I asked. "What", was her answer. I repeated the question in more detail. "Of course" she said.
I got to my LaCrosse hotel at about 7:00PM and freshened up. I was traveling light so I hadn't packed much so I picked a black and silver blouse with a black leatherette pencil skirt. It was about 8:30 when I walked through a herd of construction workers having beer and smokes outside the motel and most un-lady likely crawled into my big pick up truck trying not to show off my panties to the prying eyes focused on me. Thrunies was only a few minutes away by design, I circled the block and checked the bar out. The street was quiet and thankfully one parking spot remained in front of the bar. I parked and the usual anxiety attacked. Should I.....Oh what the hell- better than scratching my way back through the pack of men at the motel. I walked to the front of the bar. The glass was one way so I did not know what to expect. I opened the door an to my relief there were only a handful of prying yet friendly eyes burning my clothes off. I sat down quickly at the corner of the bar about ten feet from the door. A cute young bar tender came to my rescue and took my order. See was the gal I had talked to. "Kind of quiet tonight" I said. It won't be for long she said "Karaoke Tuesday she said...."Do you Karaoke? she asked. To which I assured her I wouldn't be that cruel. Karaoke Tuesday with Drew is an event in old town LaCrosse apparently because at 9:00 PM the flood gates opened and the place began to fill up.
Now, keep in mind. Nobody came in the door or left without rubbing shoulders with the Cross Dressing Cougar perched on the corner of the bar. I was also only fifteen feet from the stage and it was a little uncomfortable and I almost ran, but the hardest part is the entrance and that was over so I bought another drink. It took a little while but people started approaching me with compliments like "love your earrings" or "beautiful blouse" and the fun began. Karaoke is an art best observed drunk or at least half drunk. The early squeal of a greaseless bearing was replaced by pure quality music ...magic. People bought me drinks, took my email, and I had twenty new friends including DJ Drew by nights end.
I can not tell you the joy this type of gathering brings me I have been at Diva and its fun but this is where my heart is. This was my first solo trip to a bar and I hope to do this more often after this. Be brave, it can be wonderful. LuvNHugs, TERI HOPEFULLY I CAN ADD A PHOTO LATER or CHECK MY PHOTOS
Wish I was with you on this trip too girlfriend, we coulda crawled into the truck together and doubled their fun!
