Here is my story as to how this went down.
My first time out in public was in Las Vegas with my wife and her BFF. It was a glorious 3 days and I had a blast but a lot of it is still a blur to me. I had never really been out before that in the 50 plus years that I have been Nicki. I had been out driving but never in a public place with lots of people.
After our Vegas trip I was wanting more but still not sure how to go about it. I had been in the closet for so many years that I was too apprehensive to go out and just plain scared to death.
I really wanted to go out to somewhere close by and we have a town about 30 minutes away that is full of shops of all kind. It’s called Old Town Spring and it’s kind of a tourist destination. Well I wrote to one of the boutique shop owners and asked her if she was accepting of a crossdresser doing some shopping in her boutique and she said “sure come on in any time”. We decided to just go and see what it was all about and I went in guy mode. We spent most of the morning shopping and I felt it would be a comfortable place to go as Nicki. We stopped into the little boutique that I had written and my wife held up a really cute top and said “This looks like it has Nicki written all over it”. The shop owner overheard her and asked If I was Nicki. I was caught totally off guard in full guy mode and didn’t know what to say for a second but I responded “yes I am Nicki”. That started the conversation going and the lady was so inquisitive and friendly. I showed her a couple pics that were on my phone and got a big WOW from her. She asked me to come back as Nicki next time and I could try on anything I wanted and she would even bring a bottle of wine if we gave her some notice.
I was very apprehensive to go out but my BFF said we should at least drive down there and see if I’m comfortable when we get there. One step at a time she said. She jokingly said I am on the 12 step program and I already finished some of the steps. First was telling my wife many years ago and subsequent steps were me telling her and our Vegas trip. So we decided we should go and if I was comfortable I should go the little boutique and get a taste of being out.
That morning I got up early and got ready to go. I took my time with my makeup, nails and getting dressed. I was extremely excited and apprehensive at the same time. We headed out the door and off we went. It was so nice to be out at least in the car with my two best friends and being accepted as Nicki and treated as one of the girls. When we got down there I said what the heck and I left the safety of our car and walked to the boutique. What a rush and it felt so good to be out again. Once again I was in my happy place but also scared.
I walked into the boutique and the owner took a few minutes to realize it was me. She came over and gave me a big hug and asked why didn’t we let her know we were coming. I told her I had to do this a little at a time and that this was a huge step for me. She said I looked fantastic and told us about a couple more shops that would be very accepting. I plan on going back and spending more time there in the very near future. I’m also contemplating going to Prom night near Dallas but we’ll see.
This was a huge step for me and I am so glad I went. The entire experience has me wanting more but just going to that boutique was enough excitement for one day. I will be less afraid next time. We did go home and have one of our girls nights. I love having girls nights with my wife and our BFF. We usually mix a few batches of Margaritas and play card and laugh and giggle. Later in the evening we all slip into our jammies. It’s so fun to just be one of the girls and I am truly blessed to have such an accepting wife and her friend.
Well that’s it girls.
Love, Nicki
50 years of preparation is a long lead up Nicki , I fully understand having gone through a similar process. Having a supportive spouse and best friend is the support you need. You were probably looking good and ready to go years ago but the stars weren't aligned but clearly they are now and you are going to make up, in more ways than one for lost time.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful story and look forward to more about trips out you'll no doubt be making soon.

Amazing! You did it! Congratulations! I love these kinds of stories. The sky never falls, people never freak out, and you get to be accepted/loved/validated for all that you are!
So happy for you! Any outing that ends with margaritas and pajamas is a whopping success in my book!
Way to go Nicki! Thank you for sharing that inspiring story. A big step!
Love reading posts like this, even better with your wife and her BFF support and encouragement Wish more ladies were like this. Kudos also to the shop owner of being supportive and so welcoming!!
Hi Nicki, sounds like a great day out & it sounds like a great boutique too. I guess they will be getting repeat custom. It's great that they are so friendly, pity there aren't more shops like that.
What a day! Isn't it amazing how once you get going, you just get bolder and bolder. Well done Nicki!
Hugs,

It gets easier every time Nicki. You are embarking on a very thrilling part of your dressing journey. Enjoy!
Nicki, I am so happy for you. I am glad you have your wife and her BFF to go out with you. It sounds like you had a great time. Like some others have said it is easier each time you go out.
This is a lovely story Nicki.
The feeling of apprehension and being scared to death is something a lot of us are familiar with, but you still managed it, so well done, and I’m not surprised it’s left you wanting more.
Your wife sounds wonderful as well

Thank you for sharing your experience. What a lovely day to spend with your wife and BFF. It is wonderful that the boutique owner was so accepting and helpful, I'm sure she has a repeat customer. It was very nice of her to let you know of other shops that are accepting as well.
XOXO
