After reading about being stopped by the police, I thought I'd tell my story...

My counsellor lives about 12 miles from where I live. I used to drive to her for my sessions. She is TG and brilliant.

One cold January evening, I drove up for my weekly session. I was fully clothed. Thick tights wollen skirt, and a lovely wollen jumper.... It was cold, very cold. I decided that I would wear my heels, only my 3"  not my 4s...

By the time I got to my counsellor's house it was not only icy, but snowing heavilly. No worries, I parked my car on her drive and carefully tottered my way to her front door.

We had out counselling session which was productive, and as I left, I unlocked the car and found that the bater was flat. So flat the light inside the car barely came on. No way would it start.  I had left my lights on. My counsellor lives most of the way up a hill. I went back, told her my problem and she gave me a push . I only needed a start as it was down hill. The car started, I was safe! Driving home on one of the main roads, I stopped at traffic light. When they changed to green, I stalled. I very rarely stall, but then I rarely drive in heels. The car wouldn't start. I got out, and pushed the car to the side of the road.... Not easy in heels. I phoned my wife to ask he if she could bring the jump leads... She was halfway down a bottle of Prosecco, so she didn't want to risk it. Only option, Phone the RAC.!

I sat in the car, fully clothed in female clothing, getting colder and colder.

The RAC van turned up, and I got out of the car to greet the mechanic. If you have seen my profile pic, I don't event attempt to pass. I thought to myself that I wouldn't mention it, if he doesn't. We chatted briefly, he connected the jump leads, and within no time at all the car was running.  Just before he left, he suggested that next time I tell them that I was a lone female. This way, it pushes me up the priority list. I suggested that it would be lying. His answer was do it anyway, regardless how you are dressed, They are not going to send someone out and tell them to leave a stranded motorist if they find out they are telling lies 🙂

TBF to the guy, he could see my embarrassment, and was really nice. I'm sure I gave him a story to tell, but I won't complain about that. He made what could have been a seriously embarrassing and stressful situation into no situation at all.

When I got home, I emailed the RAC telling them how professional this chap was.

This was about 5 years ago. I still smile to myself every time I pass that junction.

Interesting story, thanks for sharing it. Isn’t it funny how sometimes circumstances decide when it’s time to show ourselves to others? How fortunate you were to come across an understanding individual. And, the tip about telling them you are a female alone broken down, Brilliant! If there is a next time, and I hope there isn’t, use that tip girl!

Thank you Stephanie.... The car was a Hyundai i10. The battery was tiny.... I now drive fully electric. Do I dare take it for too long a drive and go flat again? Jump leads would fix that 😉 It would need a relay to a charger 🙂
