Glad I didn't come out in the military, did 10 years in the Marines.Thought about and was told don't do it.I was explained about it very well and one was the don't ask, don't tell law which ended in 2011.Changed my mind,I would of ruined my military career if I came out.
Hi Kelsey. I dont know much about the military but I do know how much of an institution it can be. In this day and age, there should be openness and acceptance but in many places, there simply isn't. It really should not be like that but I would be inclined to agree, in certain circumstances, its best not to say, however much it breaks principles. I assume the military is very much male dominated and male minded. I can fully understand where you are coming from Kelsey. very good thought provoking post 🙂 .

It was struck down in the courts in 2011 and I was glad to hear this
Kelsey, I went in the army in 1967. I was 18 and i volunteered my draft. At the time they were drafting 19yr olds and i said let me get this over with. I remember 2 guys got caught together in a empty barracks. They were gone the next day. When i was in Vietnam i planned to go to Taipei on R&R and get a girl to dress me up. I got hurt (non combat) a couple days before i left and was sent home. Back then they would give you a unadaptable discharge if you were found to be gay.

I enlisted in 1997,decided I wanted a better life and changed my life around. Was hanging around people that were a bad influence. It was two weeks before I graduated from high school doing this.Did get to dress off duty
totally agree girl!! I did over 30 years, retiring as an E-9 / CSM. I dressed and played alot, even while deployed, so glad I never came out, I have seen to many great Soldiers/Leaders ruined because they came forward after dont ask dont tell was repealed. I look back now and am just thankful nobody outed me or discovered me. I led Soldiers in combat while in panties under uniform, and brought everyone home. But I know, if my secret had been discovered, I would have been pushed out immediately.
I have been attracted to women' swimwear since I was very young and that did not go away during my enlisted years as I had hoped it would. I am not homosexual, so I would not have been affected by "don't ask don't tell" rules. The only thing that would have taken me out is the ridicule I know I would have received.
Thank you for your service
