So this is my first post and it’s kinda funny now but it’s n the moment it was anything but….

I decided that I needed a night out, so I got all dressed up with hair done, makeup, the whole deal. For reference I was wearing leather leggings, a tank, ankle boots, forms, and I thought I looked pretty good that night.

so I went to one of my favorite bars and I had a good time, I even talked to a couple people sitting near me and I never do that. I was feeling confident I guess.

So, last call rolls by and I head out to my car to make a 30 min drive home. I’m jamming out to the radio…and I see blue lights behind me so I pull over. A statey walks up to my window and tells me that my registration had expired and they had to tow my car.

I’m shaking like a leaf, thinking about who I could call and how they would react. I eventually got up the strength to call my brother who picked me up at the tow yard. Never blinked or said a word about my appearance. At the time I was grateful that he did not tease or make fun of me, but now years later I think to myself maybe I looked so bad he didn’t want to make me feel bad. My brother was the first of my family to see the real me, and made it easier for me to then let the rest of my family see me. The real me.

So that’s my story, hugs to all

Kat

@katrinajae So glad your 'outing yourself ' went well for you. Hope everyone takes you being you and sees the joy it brings you.

For me, I accidentally let my Ex catch me wearing one of her old bras.  The first thing she did was to tell our 3 grown kids then threatened to tell my brothers.  This started me down the road to coming out to everyone, which is where I am now.

That is such a great story.  I’m still afraid to go out alone, and if I’d had an episode like this, I’d have been pushed completely back in hiding.  I so admire your courage to get out and about after that.

@jennconn Jennifer, as good as you look, you shouldn't hesitate to go anywhere you want to go.

What a shock! You’re brother was solid in an awkward situation. How have things gone as you come farther out since then?

Well enough about your brother. How did the trooper handle it?

Hi Kat

It's every girl's nightmare to get stranded while dressed. In your situation, now my wife has died, I'm not sure who I would call. Probably my daughter who knows about Veronica but she has said she doesn't want to see me dressed. Hopefully she would relent if I was in a difficult situation!

The trooper was very sweet and understanding. She gave me a warning when she should have given me a citation and stayed with me till my brother showed up.

He really surprised me that night. Prior to that my mother and sister were the only people who knew and the first to see me as Kat. It strangely gave me the courage to introduce Kat to them. It was also the first of several instances where I accidentally outed myself to someone…now I’m just like here I am!

Well if you are going to do it then doit in style! Luckily it all went well and perhaps your mother and sister knowing they may have mentioned it to your brother. A great story with a good outcome.

For me the first time I outed myself it was with my neighbor I was at the house and I was fully dressed and just going about my day cleaning and just doing what you do during the day you know laundry and stuff and I went I had to go to the shed to get something I think a screwdriver or something and didn't even stop to think about my neighbors my thinking was it's the middle of the day they're going to be going to work so I just walked on out went to my shed came back and as I was going in the door I looked up and that was my neighbor standing in the window after that she never made a big fuss of it she just you know asked where do I get my tops how did I learn to do my nails and then explain to me that her nephew is gay so she's used to it and it doesn't bother her you got to just live your life

Hi Katrinaja

That sounds akin to getting knocked into the deep end and having to learn to swim.

I am glad that it worked out well for you.
