I've just come back from spending a day at the New York Renaissance Faire (en femme, of course).
I did a lot of preparation work on Saturday or earlier, like mostly packing my bag and purse (except for the phone), packing a bag (with sunscreen being the most important), and charging my camera and the spare battery. Even though I was going to wear a skater spaghetti strap sundress, I decided I would put on my corset as well (with a camisole underneath and the straps hung down to act as a corset liner without visible straps under the dress.
Sunday morning I got up early to eat. tighten the corset (mostly pull out some slack at the top and bottom) and put on my makeup. I left home around 8:30 and got there about 9:50. With the walk from the parking lot to the entrance, I was there just about the time they opened. My daughter loaned me a headband with flowers on it as well as antlers. It proved a little problematic when I had to take the camera bag off my head, but otherwise it was fun. I even had someone compliment me on the antlers.
I got the tickets in my male name because I got a senior discount, and they said they would check ID (which they didn't). I got to see various shows and performances, including two jousts. For the first one, I got VIP tickets and sat in the shade. When I got in to the VIP area, a couple with a daughter about 9 or 10 came in and sat next to me. They shortly left to go get some alcoholic drinks leaving their daughtger alone (sort of with me) before returning a few minutes later. When we were leaving, the daughter even said goodbye to me.
The temperature was in the low 80's (F), with a touch of humidity. I was out in the sun much of the day, and glad I set reminders on my phone to put on sunscreen every two hours.
On my way home in the evening, I stopped at a diner for something to eat. I was surprised my makeup held up all day (this was about 11 hours after I put it on) despite being in outdoors and in the sun most of the day.
All in all, I had a great time. A tiring but fulfilling day.
Hey Alison,
Sounds like a great day!

I haven't been to such a fair in nearly 40 years. Back in the day a lot of people dressed up, but this was still the 70s, so a lot of hippies still both in the booths and walking around, so for some it was their daily wear. It would be fun to wear to wear a Maid Marion sort of dress.
A lot of people dressed up in costumes, some period appropriate, some not. Many men were wearing kilts too.
They even have a "time travelers" weekend where people dress in all sorts of costumes. One year I saw Queen Amidala with Queen Elizabeth!
That sounds like a lot of fun. Hopefully sometime in the near future, I will get out and actually go someplace like that. All of my outings have been “soft“ or not completely done up. That, or in the dead of night under the cover of darkness, lol
It sounds like you had a wonderful time. I’m very happy for you.
