I actually went to a store fully dressed and purchased something.
OK i know for many this may not be that big of a deal, but for me, it kind of is. Usually when i go out I find public, yet quiet places to walk around, or go into a less used mall entrance, and never really leave the doorway. but yesterday I went for it.
I left my house with a trunk full of outfits. I was on a mission to be dressed for the day and nothing was going to stop me. when I got to a discrete area that I can easily change in my car I picked out what I wanted to wear. I chose a pair of short boots, blackout tights, a green/tan plaid midi a-line skirt, with a black cashmere turtleneck, and warm chunky oversized cardigan to match the skirt. Ohh and I can't forget the light petticoat to get show off the fullness of the skirt. Once I got dressed and finished with my makeup, I got my wig and put it on. I reached for my hair brush but I forgot that it broke when I closed it in the glove-box last week. Needless to say I was not happy. I took all that time to get ready and now my hair was in need of brushing. Thinking to myself, I really need to get a hair brush and where can I go to get one. I mean I could easily undo everything I just did and go into any store and get a brush, but I really didn't want to redo everything again. Instead I took a drive. After about an hour or so I decided why not just go into a Target and buy a brush while dressed? I'm far enough away that there is little chance I'll know anyone around here. so I pulled up to the store and found a parking spot not to far from one of the doors. I sat there for a while with a lot of thoughts running through my head. After about what seemed like forever (15 minutes) I said *&%$ it I'm going in. one of the great things about the skirt is it has pockets 🙂 i put some cash in one and my keys in the other. and I started to walk in. It was strange at first, no one seemed to notice me...not at all. I walked in and straight to the beauty section and looked for a brush, (my wig wasn't that in need of brushing, but I always feel the need to be able to brush it). I found what I was looking for. Still I walked in and around loads of people, some made eye contact others didn't, I felt perfectly relieved. I was still nervous and my heart was racing, so I found a path to the self checkout corral to leave. Once I got there I realized I could easily have spent a good amount of time in here just shopping around. After i paid for the brush and exited the corral the store associate said Thank you ma'am, have a great day. I said nothing back and kept my head turned away. At that point I just kept calm and casually left with all the other shoppers coming and going with no real confrontations. I guess most people are busy with their own thing to not notice/be bothered by what others are doing. all in all, it was very exciting for me. and I cant wait to break my hair brush so I may have an adventure like that again.

Way to go! And I think you hit the nail right on the head - most people are too intent on their own business to notice us. We go in thinking there's a flashing light over our head -- "Attention K Mart Shoppers! Blue Light Special walking down the Beauty Aisle!" But as long as we do our business with confidence, act like we belong there (which we do), we will blend in with the civilians.
I hope this is the first of MANY outings for you! As I usually say as the "sign off" on my Blog . . .
Stay Safe And Pretty, Sweetie!
Thanks for sharing Charris, and congratulations to you for overcoming that huge mental barrier and heading into a store looking your fab Charris self. Such a buzz isn’t it, ma’am, realising you are being who you want to be, and others are just getting on with their life all around you. I still remember that first long ‘will I won’t I’ time sitting in car. A bit like being at the top of a bungee jump, or a skydive, then the exhilaration hits you when you go for it. Then you just want to do it again🤣

Congrats! Thanks for the laugh on this snowy day.
We all know how scared you were and the adrenalin high one gets. We might thing of it as an extreme sports event and so exhilarating when over
Great story. You look beautiful hun, Im so happy for you.
Thanks for sharing this story Charris. You said you've already stepped inside the "lesser used" doors of malls but never gone all the way in, now you've made it past the threshold. Congrats, it will be easier to do from now on.
Charris, the first time walking into a store dresses is a VERY exciting moment! Congratulations!
It is good that you took time to notice that nobody noticed. I think we are generally SO self conscious about ourselves when dressed that we think ALL eyes are on us... trust me they are not. Usually in a shopping setting people are so busy with their task at hand that they could be standing next to Bigfoot and not give him a second glance. If anything we might draw more attention to us when dressed because we tend to try TOO hard to pass/fit in. If you look at the way average GGs dress to go to the store, most do not do much to polish their look, we do!
I had an experience while walking into a Kohl's department store dressed, I was almost at the front door and 4-5 other women were entering as well. A lady that was leaving walked straight up to me and gave me some Kohl's cash that would expire that day if it was not used. She could have given it to any one of us that was walking in, but she turned to give it to me. I would like to thing it was because I was dressed a bit nicer than average as to why she singled me out, maybe thinking I would be more apt to use the gift she was presenting.
So, welcome to the public crossdressing world and may you have MANY more happy experiences as Charris.
Hugs, MaryAnn
Hi Charris,
Congratulations, and it is a big deal. I don't know anyone who has said they had no worries the first time going in public dressed. Afterwards, yes, it was a thrill.
Hi Charris
The first time being dressed en femme and going into a store is a big deal There's very little that compares to the excitement of this moment Taking this step helps you to get past the fear of the unknown I know that your mind was going in a million directions and you were so brave to overcome the negative things that you thought might happen. Target is a great store for your first time shopping . Target doesn't seem to be a place that's judgemental and Target welcomes all people who are shopping. Your post about your first time going into a store brought back memories of my first time and I still remember every detail of that first time. This will always be a memory that you will relive over and over in your mind forever. The first time is the hardest and each time after becomes easier. Soon you'll be ready to go into a restaurant and enjoy having a meal. Your confidence in yourself gets to be more and more as you continue to go out dressed en femme. I found this to be true and the next big step I took was going into a ladies room. This was something that I never thought that I'd ever do, but if you are out and nature calls, going into a ladies room is something that is necessary. Enjoy your new found freedom. Stay safe and be aware of your surroundings.
