Up until about 5 years ago I was closeted, but the urge to go out dressed became stronger with each passing day. It got to the point that I would get dressed and just go for a drive with no particular destination in mind. When I began doing this I was religious about checking my car over.  Things like making sure the tank was full, checking my tires and doing all I could to prevent having trouble.  Of course I always took along a change of men's clothing and some wipes just in case I needed to change.

This went on about a year without incident, but over that time I got more and more lax about checking my car, and in my haste to get on the road, I would sometime forget to take my usual change of clothing. It was one Thursday night in late August of 2013 that everything changed. I had gotten home a bit later than usual from work and wanted my usual road trip so I did my make up and got dressed. I was wearing a denim mini skirt, a pink top and a pair of black 4" heels. Over time I had also gotten accustomed to going further and further away from home. I had been a few places dressed where gurls like me are usually well accepted,  so I always kept a 20 dollar bill in my purse in case I wanted something to drink or a snack. When I would go on these outings, I never took my wallet, just tucked my driver's licence into one of the pockets in my purse.

This night seemed much like the others until I found myself in Elizebethtown Ky, some 90 mile from home and happened to look down and see the needle on my gas gauge was on E. Now I was faced with a dilemma, I knew I had forgotten my change of clothing that night because I was in such a rush to get started, and since I never brought my debit or credit card I knew my only choice was to use the 20 I had tucked in my purse, by some gas and go in and pay the attendant. I had pulled over in a restaurant parking lot while I weighed my options and while there I saw a station just a few hundred yard up the street. It was about midnight so there wasn't a lot of people out and I figured this was as good as any I would find. I drove over and they had a sign posted, pay before you pump, so I summoned all the nerve I had, got out and walked inside. There was only one customer in there. a woman, probably in her mid 4-'s and the attendant, a young man in his late teen to early 20's. I walked up to the counter and in my best female voice, (which wasn't a very good one) told him I would like $20 regular. He was very polite, and if he noticed, he never let on, even calling me mam, which I loved, incidentally. If the lady customer noticed, she never let on either, I have often wondered what went on, if anything the the next few minutes after I went out to pump my gas.

If nothing else, this was an unbelievable shot of confidence for me, and since then I have been in public places while in Jennifer mode on several occasions.

wow very exciting but you might want to put a credit card somewere in your purse if it was a flat tire it could cost you more than 20 dollars as the times roll on I'm sure you will get braver and take many trips out of the car maby shopping. Thanks for the story

Jennifer, Thank you for the story. The draw of the outside does get stronger as we become more comfortable with ourselves, compared to the safety of the "closet". I'm at that point myself; I need to learn make-up first. I hope you've continued to spread your wings and have had more enjoyable outings. P.S. I hope you've gotten better at covering emergency situations.

Yep bring more cash and a credit card for the pump! And there are a lot of places to go for walks in public... parks, malls, department and grocery stores some of which you can self checkout if you want to purchase something. Go when they are very busy... it's easier to hide in a crowd believe it or not.

I remember when I first driving around en femme, I would look the other way so passing motorists couldn't get a good look at me. Now I stroll thru stores and force myself to look people in the eye and smile... it's still scary but I smile cuz I'm happy with myself!

Hi Britney

I have found people will accept you without makeup - it's not as essential as you might think.

A long as your overall appearance is nice, you can get away with almost anything.

I know what you mean though, first few times I went out I spent ages on makeup!

Love Laura
