I went out to another local drag show on September 18th. My wing girl, @philma Bierstein couldn’t make it but I usually have no trouble finding a group of girls to hang out with when she can’t go. This was no exception. Quite a few of my friends and acquaintances were there and I had already been invited to sit with a group of ladies that recognized me from the last drag show.

It was a typical Saturday. My wife hung out with her bestie before coming home in ample time for me to get ready. I had an outfit all planned but changed my mind that day because I wanted to wear an awesome cami bodysuit that my wife bought for me recently. The bodysuit was a black and floral, lightly padded, and was sheer except in the bust. I also wore a black bolero jacket to minimize my manly shoulders and arms. But as the focal point of the outfit, I wore an ultra short white skirt. I topped it off with plenty of jewelry and my black Jessica Simpson stiletto booties. They have a half inch platform and were extremely comfortable and easy to walk in.

I’m getting much better with my makeup and it’s taking me just over an hour now as opposed to the two hours it had been.

The best thing about this show was that three of my friends were performing, another was assisting them backstage, some friends were in the crowd, and several people recognized me from previous shows (drags shows and fetish balls) and started conversations. I did see another trans girl in the crowd. We didn’t speak but we did acknowledge each other as we passed by.

Keeping with my recent trend, I didn’t dress to pass so I was not in stealth mode (I was definitely visible to the radar). I did not wear forms or hip/butt pads. And my outfit was really form fitting and not meant to hide much.

The crowd was kinda small compared to previous shows. But the compliments and attention were just as heavy giving support to my theory about getting more compliments when not in stealth mode. As was the case with the Rainbow Rave, the hottest girl in the house wound up hanging out a bit with me.

I had tried a new hairstyle with my wig. I did a ponytail the last couple times out but this time I did the little tendrils of hair hanging in front of my ears. Well, that girl just happened to have the exact same hairstyle that I did and she approached me to tell me how much she loved that extra detail with my hair. OMG, she was gorgeous and exactly what I want to look like in my next life. We talked for a while about the little details in hair and fashion that make such a big difference. Then we took selfies together. She got all up against me and I had to extend the situation with several more shots.

There’s a good selfie that I also put in the public gallery because I loved the hairstyle, a picture of my entire outfit, and two of my favorite drag queens. One is my drag crush because she’s so darn cute and she heavily influenced my recent outfits and decision to not wear forms and pads so much. Another one is with another drag queen that has created the most unique persona in her performances (though she wasn’t performing last night). She was dressed like Maleficent at the Show Me Pride Drag Show and can be seen in that gallery as well. She’s my favorite performer.

I love that people are recognizing me, I am starting to see more people that I know in the crowd and not just onstage. The bartender remembers me and knows what I like to drink. And again, I got to hang out and talk with the most gorgeous girl in the crowd, and several other cute girls. I so love being out and proud!

Wow! Sounds like an amazing night out Mika, loved the pictures.

Very envious of you going out, i havent built up the confidence to do that yet.

Im in Stephanie's boat though, wont be able to do it local. Too many country farmers/ranchers and family around to consider it.

Out in the city is another matter 🙂

Hugs,
Kyra

I totally get that Stephanie. My city is kinda big (75,000). It’s in the Midwest and isn’t quite big enough to really be truly open and accepting of alternative lifestyles. When I first came out, I thought I would never dress here and would just take the short drive to Kansas City which is a little more open. But once the drag shows and fetish balls started happening again, I started going out here. Those types of events tend to attract a more open minded crowd so I have had nothing but good experiences. I still probably would not get dressed and go shopping here but, at the same time, I shop (in drab) in the women’s sections here a lot and have never had any negative experiences. It’s weird. One of those things that you have to play by ear. But totally understand what you you mean.

Thanks, Donna. Yeah, it was a blast.

I’ve seen what some facials do to people. Did you have a bad experience or was it something expected that will ultimately be good in the long run ?

Thank you so much, Kyra! I totally get what you mean. I never expected to be going out locally so much but the drag shows help create a more accepting environment. If I want to just go out em femme to shop, the big city does seem better.

I'm going to start paying attention for such events. I don't think I've heard of any any local ones, but I know a a few hours away I have some options.

Great idea to ease into a public adventure and build some confidence up.

(The trick will be building up the courage to go in thr first place)

ALWAYS love to hear about Mika's out and about exploits and see her pics!!  Simply incredible!  You are a shining star and example to all of us here about being yourself, being confident in yourself and owning it!  And girl, you freaking OWN it!  🙂

Love the pics!

To early to tell now but believe going to be a great thing in the long run. surgery and stay were not to bad. First couple days pain and swelling were total crap. but each day gets better.

Kyra, if you did have a local show and encountered those farmers/ranchers, you could just ask, “I’m a CD. Why are YOU here?” 😁

Much love,
Raquel
