I'm working on getting ready for a photoshoot in about 6 weeks' time. The MUA booked, studio booked, photographer booked. Outfit...working on.
So I've got the dresses, couldn't find the lingerie in shops, so looked online. Suspender belt (size L) way too big, so I bought another in size M which fits perfectly. Underbust corset size XXL waaaay too small either I need to loose over an inch in the waist or find another corset. The colour is vital.
Does anyone else have this problem with sizing?
Sizing is the bane of Internet shopping 😖 Particularly for me at the moment, in conversion between UK and Euro shoe sizes. A UK 11 and Euro 45 are a pretty good match for each other. Except some places decide that UK11 = EU44, so I buy a Euro size up, because it's a fair assumption that the shoes will be made for the larger market. And when they turn up, saying UK12/EU45, it's more like they were made to the UK sizes and just mistranslated into Euro sizes.
I suspect all the Amazon Chinese-made stuff is made to smaller Asian sizes and you basically have to find a listing with a proper chart with ranges of measurements that it'll fit, taking into account the elastic in the fabrics. Which doesn't help you with a corset, of course - sorry!
When I started dressing in earnest, I got the GF's tape and took measurements. With those in hand I started buying things - sometimes online, sometimes in person. There were a few initial hiccups, but I settled quickly into a US 16 (sometimes 14) or XL (sometimes XXL).
I've found I get it right more often than not. Like most things, it's about repetition - keep at it! 😉
There is nothing like trying things on in person. We all have sizing issues and funding the right fit is always a challenge. I have had nothing but good, and fun experuences tryi g things on in stores. I do think SAs enjoy helping us find just the right size and style and aee not at all put off helping in the dressing room adjusting straps and what not. I have never had an issue wuth an SA helping me and they do not seem the least put off even if I am wearing nothing but a bra and panties or corset.
Hi girls,
I'm in Canada, and my two favorite lady's wear stores, 'Cleo' and 'Laura', are both close by and have wonderful online catalogs. I have tried on items in both stores and know my sizes, so I can confidently by online and know it will fit. If there's a problem I can take the online item to the local store for a refund or exchange. If the items are petites I take a ladies XL, if they're regular I fit a ladies L, which works out to a size 14. My biggest sizing issue is pants and slacks, sizing for them is literally all over the map! You have to try each pair on every time!
Hugs,
Ms. Lauren M
We all have that problem with sizing.
Unfortunately there is no universal sizing in clothing, be it male or female. Men's are a bit easier as they generally go by dimensions like 34-32 in pants.
Every maker of women's clothing uses their own sizing. They all vary somewhat. Shoes are a perfect example. I wear a 10W and prefer Clarks. I can buy any Clarks shoe in that size and it fits perfectly, but if I buy a Jimmy Choo it's too narrow and too short.
The other issue in women's clothing is that they change the size at will. Someone will make something that is a 12-14. Fine I wear a 14 skirt. Then they change and it's now 14-16 and it's too big for me. If you buy from an Asian manufacturer then forget it. Everything may say 14 but it's far too small. If you don't see numeric details like bust-waist-hips sizing it's so hard to buy something that will definitely fit.
It's the nature of the beast I'm afraid.
