Someone used the term "hybrid mode" here recently. Perfect description for me. Testing the waters. Not really sure. With Halloween coming up though, I decided I'm going for it. Fully dressed for all the world to see. If I get clocked? So what, it's Halloween. If I DON'T get clocked...that would be the best treat I could ever imagine.

So lets get ready. First off I must have a new dress.I went to a thrift store I shop at frequently. I usually cruise the discount racks in the front...mostly womens with a little mens mixed in. I've bought girls jeans, blouses and shorts without much of a reaction. Then they have a separate women's section and of course dresses are at the faaar end. So I walk casually what seemed like 3 miles to the back and started looking. One woman looked at me and. beelined out of the area. Others tried not to look but kept their distance. Found one I liked. Pretty light blue, ruffled collar, right length. Perfect. Check the size...small. I tried on a medium the other day and it was a little loose in places. I'm sure I can wear a small. I tuck it under my arm with my other purchases and head for the cashier.
Two days later I finally get a chance to try it on. Let's see...slip it over the top? No, can't get past my shoulders. Step into it? I can suck in my stomach but I can't suck in my rib cage. After 20 minutes of struggling it's on. Almost. Can't quite pull it all the way down. I glanced it the mirror and almost cried...it was gorgeous. Aside from the fact that my little breasts I worked so hard to grow were squashed flat as a pancake I looked stunning. Now it was time to face the awful truth. I can't wear a small. I cant get it off. How did I get this thing on in the first place? Really. I'm stuck. So I did the only thing I could. Reach for the scissors and in the trash it went. Oh well. It was only $6. Small price to pay for a valuable lesson in humility.

Now it's back to the thrift store. There was a black one I saw that was really cute. It was a small but maybe...

I must be retarded because I keep buying small dresses and end up as you did. I have never taken scissors but I hear rips when I am taking it off.

I shop at a second hand store a lot, its called Goodwill outlet. Clothes cost something like 50 cents a pound.  I have gotten amazing incredible things at this store. I am in Washington state and I know they have them in Oregon, but I cannot speak for the rest of the country. One time I got this amazing BeBe dress, it was Black and looked kind of like leather. Is was form fitting, strapless and beautiful.  Holding it in my hand it looked like I could just jump right into it, and I could. The problem came when my girl friend tried to zip it. She couldn't even hardly get the zipper started . I almost cried it was the most beautiful thing I ever seen and it probably cost me 25 cents . My girl friend couldn't get it on either. I even tried to put it on some time later after losing a couple pounds. We ended up selling it online for $40 or something lime that. I think we cried a little again watching it go to some chick 5 foot tall and if 100lbs.

These outlets have other things lime shoes and purses but I never seen to find any of that stuff still worth using.

Something I have found out is you can get a pretty dress at Wal-Mart for like 9.bucks. I do it all the time. One time I was stuck I  a town near Portland Oregon for a couple weeks as my car was getting extensive engine repairs. The was a Super Wal-Mart within walking distance and I would buy something nice to wear every day and it didn't just my budget . Oh and I found that I wear a Large dress. That amazes me because so think I am so tiny.

I love to buy stuff at yard sales too. I go to the yard sales wearing a skirt or Capri jeans and shuffle thru their clothes and shoes at .leisure. I have done this 100 times and only once was I made fun of. It really wasn't that bad. Four ladies were socializing while I looked thru the clothes . As I left she suggested I buy a wedding dress she had and the 4 of them giggled.

Dresses are not always L M S. I have seen with numbers or numbers with letters.  I haven't figured this out yet. I can wear ladies sorts or jeans in the size 9, 10 maybe 12 depending on how stretchy they are, but the dress sizes don't seem to correlate with this pants size. I could be mistaken so I need to study that.

You know as a boys I dressed nice. My mother and father were both very nice looking and dressed nice, and the passed that down to me and my sister's. I am aa design engineer and although I didn't wear a  suit unless we were having a client meeting I did wear Dockers and various designer shirts . I usually felt I was the best dressed engineer on our team and believe it or not something as simple as that reallywas noticeable in my career advancement. Thad and the fact that I just kept in college for years.

Well I am trying to do the same thing as a sissy. I just love it when a lady says nice dress or nice outfit. When a man does it I melt.

Why didnt you take it back and give it o the thrift store as a donation. Then try on the next one you get. Goodwill and salvation will let you try on dresses in the store as well as most department stores do. Don't waste your money anymore, you could have got some makeup with those dollars. You still got time to get an outfit before Halloween and whats nice is the store owners will help you more thinking your just wanting a costume instead of wearing it all the time.

Since your girl friend like to help you, she should be able to measure you and get the correct size for both of you to wear. I have always helped my brother get dresses to fit him. well at least ask for her to help, couldn't hurt.

Thank you for sharing your experience Candy and everyone else who replied. It is reasuring to know that these things happen to other people too. I've figured out that I wear a ladies medium or sometimes a large. Never mind that I am by no means large. The inconsistency in the clothing sizes irritates me.  I really don't understand why women tolerate this randomness in sizing of products sold to them but it helps to know that it isn't just me. I ended up using my phone to keep a list of sizes that work and keep it handy when browsing.

Well the sizing issue is rather disturbing and I also wish it was more standardized 🤔. As for the numbers and letters Randy, if it has a W in front of the numbers that means it is a larger women’s size. The W literally means Women’s and P is petite. Plus size is also the W but not labeled as such. So I am a W16-18 or a W20 all because of my rib cage and slight belly. I’ve always had this slight belly and even my DI in basic training swore he was going to get rid of my belly and nope he tried but failed. Love ❤️ and hugs 🤗

Hi girls. Dress sizes have always been a bone of contention with me as you are never sure the size on the label is correct according to its true size. I feel sure the manufacturers use the sizes as 'an average' because some brands are up to two sizes out, i.e. a size 14 might be size 10 or vice versa. You have to be careful as some brands are big sizes, so a normal size 14 dress might be size 18! of course other brands are very small, so a size 14 in that brand might be a size 10 or 12 in another brand even though it says size 14 on the label. I really wish they could strictly standardize sizes, as for me, its a minefield of worry, unsurety and sheer guesswork.

I did go back to the thrift store and found another. No size marked but it looked slightly larger than the first one. I ttok it home and yea! It fit! Then I happened upon another at a yard sale for just one dollar, again no size marked, and it fit. So now I have this awful dilemma of having to decide which one to wear. I couldn't be happier!

Goodness Candy!

You didn't happen to be following me around, and peeking in my bedroom window on Sunday, were you! 🙂

I went to my favorite thrift store Sunday, was looking at stuff and they were having big sales!  I ended up buying a dress, wasn't sure it would fit (my first dress), but it was just 5 bucks!  So away I went, came home and had the opportunity to try it on.

Had all the same struggles as you!  Ended up ripping it trying to take it off, HAHAHA!  But at 5 bucks, no big lose!  I know what size does not fit!

BTW, I use the term "hybrid mode" all the time, reference to my public dress on the weekends, evenings.  Always wearing girl jeans, panties and women's shoes/boots.

Looking forward to more stories!

X's & O's.
