Hello ladies,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to share this story, but according to tipsy me, it is LOL.

I just wanted to share this experience I had today with you. So, I took the subway/tube/metro/ underground today on my way to see a friend after a very long and exhausting day at work and at one stop, this person hops on. They had a book in their hand that they buried their face in. Now, where I come from, it's so uncommon to find a person reading a book in public. Let alone an English book. So, I had some thoughts. Being the bookworm I am, I was trying really hard to catch a glimpse of the title, but i couldn't. Something else happened that made me forget all about it. By the time they got on the train, the car / carriage was crowded so I could only see their upper half. They looked perfectly cis-male. A white shirt with a navy-blue pullover on top and a short hair cut. That was when I was most interested in figuring out the title of the book they were reading. As more people got off the train, I could get a good look at them. For the lower half, they were wearing this beatifule wide-leg baggy pants (hope I got this right). I couldn't help but staring at them LOL. They looked gorgeous. And now my mind went from trying to muster up the courage to ask them for the title and perhaps recommend Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, to just wanting to start a conversation with them. Unfortunately, I could never do it. To add insult to injury, they got off at the same stop as I. They were walking right in front of me and I was swooned and infatuated by their style and the guts they had to walk around in public in such outfit which for most of the gals from Liberal countries here perhaps wouldn't sound too bold of a choice, but here, it's a big deal. In all fairness the stop where we got off is in a district that's overwhelmingly occupied by expats from all over the world and it's not out-of-place to see LGBTQ+ folks around in there, but still I was amazed and infatuated by that person. I also felt so jealous of how mesmerising they looked in that style. I wish I was bold enough to tell them that.... aaand recommend Oscar Wilde's novel LOL.

Hi Ella, That sounds like an exciting trip!

You will find the courage you mention, it just takes a while. It's my opinion that what most people label confidence is actually nothing more than a person's waning desire to please other people, especially the people they don't know.

When I'm out, about 95% of all the compliments I get are on my hair. "Ooo, I love your hair!" The thing is, this is a $20 wig - there's nothing special or particularly luxurious about it. I believe that what those compliments translate to are, "Wow, I like that you're willing to stand out like that," because many people aren't and they like this quality in others.

Mostly, I feel this comes with age, and you're still quite young. So fret not, you'll get there! 🙂

@melodeescarlet You make a lot of sense. I hope it won't have to be long before I'm confident enough to express my admiration, but I promise you this; if by some cosmological anomaly I happen to run into that person again, I shall at least compliment their looks.... Aaaand recommend Oscar Wilde's novel lol.

Thank you for your insightful reply dear.

xoxo
