That's a great idea, Lea! I can't say that I see a lot of women with their nails done up nice, though, but I will try to practice.

However, yesterday, I got to chat about me doing my nails and about crossdressing with a drugstore clerk that has helped me with nail polish a number of times. This was the first time ever that I have had the chance to do that with anybody. We never talked about anything other than nail polish with her before, and she definitely showed a personal interest. I am memorizing her name, that's for sure.

I enjoy wearing polish, and I often apply it when I am traveling solo in male mode. Nobody cares, though it is very noticable. I once walked into a clothing store, and before I was five steps in a SA commented and said what a lovely colored polish. Another time as I walked up to a hotel check desk the young woman behind the counter made a similar comment. Another woman who was busy and looking down, looked up and said, Ooo, let me see, so I showed her and she liked the color as well. So, polish is quickly noticable. It is not like it takes a while for people to notice. If you are waering anything but a real subtle color, people are seeing it.

@jjandme Along the same lines, I just went into Starbucks where the batista completed me on my pretty blue nails. Especially my thumbs which are a dark blue wing sparkles. This started a short conversation about nails. Sometimes being fully out can be so much fun.

I do not wear polish.  I would like to but my situation would not allow me to.  I do shape and polish my nails to a high gloss.  Some I have small hands it helps them to look feminine.

Some nail polishes can be very close to skin colour. Making the polish look invisible and natural (lunula + free edge) is another thing. But you can also make them less glossy.

Yesterday, the manager of a thrift store quickly saw my skin coloured nail polish and she said that she noticed that it was so shiny. She was all smiles and bubbly about it.

So, the lesson here is to use a mat topcoat, if you don't really want to get noticed.

After supper, last night, my wife asked me all on her own to clean off her old polish and redo them.

That was a welcomed change. 🤗

@harriette that's wonderful I'm sure you both enjoyed it. I've tried doing my wife's in the past and she got annoyed with me for "going outside the lines", so we go for mani-pedi's every 6-8 weeks. It is nice being pampered. I'm always in drab but get color on my toes and pink tinged clear on my fingers, all gel. At my wife's suggestion I think I'm going to get a skin tone color on my fingers next time.

XOXO

@cdsue Skin colour is very stealthy until someone notices that the moon (lunula) is covered up. It would take talent to replicate it.

@harriette agreed - I tried a skin color polish once and noticed that - I had a poker game after I had them done, freaked out a bit about them being noticed and took the polish off. I will have the opportunity to have color on my fingers in another month and will get a skin tone (my wife's suggestion). Looking forward to doing that.

I’ve only had painted nails out as a woman, and when I do they are fake ones I paint then glue on.

but the closest I’ve come to your bravery was getting a manicure and pedicure with my wife. I would recommend that to those where your SO  knows - it was a good bonding time and I got to do something feminine.

I just got the buffed and cleaned nails - my wife loved that.  She had gotten some Halloween theme nails (I totally would have done that en femme 💅🏽).

maybe next time …

@mirandam I agree it is a good bonding time - my wife and I enjoy going to the nail salon together. We help each other pick out colors. Don't be afraid to get color, at least on your toes. It is fun to sit at home in bare feet looking at your pretty toes. Right now ine are pink with white hearts for Valentines Day.

XOXO

@cdsue Because of her job, my wife rarely has her nails done professionally. I don't  mind getting practice doing her nails for her. I think that this is helping to break down some of her resistance to my dressing. 😉

@harriette That's nice that you get to practice when doing her nails. I understand about her job and not getting nails done professionally. I know that the when I worked gel and acrylic nails weren't allowed. It is wonderful that you are breaking down her resistance by doing her nails.

XOXO

@mirandam Create an illusion and nobody will notice or care.

You can go the clear route and nobody will notice if it has a matt finish.

You can go the skin colour route, too, but it is slightly more tricky.

I do my nails in clear polish when out in male mode just because I feel better about myself. While out in Debbie mode I always paint my nails or wear fake ones because I know how people do notice them. I often get compliments on my nails while out and enjoy some bold colors on occasion. I just feel so girlie with beautiful nails

@debbiedd Since I started wearing nail polish while abroad, I find that it is one of the easiest CD things to get away with, even while being androgynous or stealthy.

Bold polish colours generate compliments mostly from women. A woman recently complimented my skin-tone colour and she only noticed it because of the shiny topcoat.

Come on, ladies! Live it up a little with some colours.

I pretty much wear nail polish on fingers and toes year round. Nobody ever said anything. I just don't think anybody cares. I acknowledge that I do not live in a rural environment but even when I visit one nobody has ever said boo. I think it's one of the safer avenues of expression if you are not out.

@justnikki And that is exactly my point. It seems to be one of the most acceptable ways of safely expressing ourselves.
