I am in my late 40s and started going to trans support groups back in the mid 1990s. By the late 1990s, with the internet taking off, the number of support groups boomed. But, by the late 2000s support groups were dying off fast, some that had been around since the late 1950s and early 1960s were gone. (Some of the big trans conventions that had been around for years and years were folding too.) The number of groups has continued to dwindle and there are not many trans support groups left today.
It is great that most younger people feel so comfortable today they don't need a support group. But it is very unfortunate for those who do need an in-person support group.
I believe that the younger generations are more accepting of things like crossdressing, hence they most likely have “live” support groups in their friend circle. I can say that at 68 I find this site invaluable to my mental health. If I had real people close by that were supportive, I be thrilled to use that resource as well. Anybody near Ocala, FL? 😉😁
Interesting point I am in my 30s and think I am a youngster around here, yet I have been dressing on and off in secret since I was about 12 but I have only recently developed my look to try and look more feminine more recently.Interestingly I look back to my teenage years in high school and for example kids who were gay (there were not that many in my school at least) used to get bullied for that so no one would dare come out as a crossdresser as the bullying would have been intolerable, perhaps that explains why I am still very much in the closet. So I also wonder were my generation less tolerant than the current generation of teenagers who seem to be more accepting of gay and trans kids but if high schools were like ones back in my day (god I sound like an old fart LOL) I bet any kid who is different what is seen as the norm is still bullied.
They still very much exist, they are just on different platforms. Young people aren't on web based forums. They are on Reddit, Twitter and tiktok.
I am in a few communities on those platforms and I feel old at 37. I was reading a reddit thread the other day where a 20ish year old femboy was concerned about getting older and not looking feminine anymore. It really put things into perspective!
That's a very Good Question , Were are our younger members , under 40, or under 30???
It be good to have more of them .. I lov to see more of them ,
