After spending a total of 2.5 hours on epilating my legs over the past couple days, I wonder how much time you spend on hair removal, and what your favorite technique is. Epilating lasts me at least 5 weeks, tho with hair growing at different rates, some touch-up is required during that time.
I'd imagine most of us shave one part of our bodies or another. Does anyone wax at home? Other epilator users? How long does it take you, and how often do you need to do it?
Chest & belly hair are my bane, I could almost do it twice a day if I absolutely needed to. I can skip a day on my face if I'm not using makeup. Crazy!
Has anyone had luck with preparations (moisturizers and such) containing soy to reduce hair growth?
Jessica,
I am still on razors but have looked at epilators but not jumped yet. Looking forward to hear insight from the ladies on this!

I use to shave all my body each two days, water and soap, it takes arroun 45 minuts, but some times i cut myself. I also use my wife´s epilator (when sheé not at home, it hurts on chest and inner face of femur muscles. every 15 days with depilatory creams.
afte avaluate all this procedures and techniques i can consider the most easy ena efective can be lasser epilation (for those havin no autoimmune desease such as rheumatic arthritis, lupus, anti phosfolipids etc... etc...)
I hate may parents about this, why they didn´t make my way easier by requesting a son/ daughter without wolf facial and body hair lol-
I carry the first three tipes on my travell case and it only increases a lot the case weigh lol, so each time i travell i do alot of excersice lol

I have never tried epilators-the though of it "ripping'the hairs" out of the skin gvies me pause-I know we have to sacrifice or suffer for beauty sometimes but this girl is a little wimpy about it. Shaving all over takes me about 25-30 minutes in the shower but need to know how to avoid razor burn and ingrown hairs and those little red bumps(tend to get these in the bikini area.). Lasts at best two or three days for body hair. Face is a must everyday(and if I ever get the courage to go out on the town I'd likely need to do it again in the evening too).
Have also used Nair and Veet depilatories which (aside form the smell) give pretty good results and lasts a bit longer for me than shaving (out to about a week or so).
NEver tried waxing except a small area at home-too hard to get the temp just right and pull it off at the right pace; I would LOVE to get a full body wax at a salon but am not quite that brave yet!
Even more so I'd like to try laser hair removal to avoid having to repeat removal(even if it takes seeral tries it would be worth it) but am uncertain about the cost and also whether it would work since I tend to have lighter body hair and usually a pretty good tan.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Cynthia
I am currently investing $9000 in laser hair reduction on my face, forearms, cjest, tummy, and buttocks... and that was with discounts!
But after one treatment, but face is noticeably smoother!
Wow I knew it was pricey but OUCH!
Yea my chest and belly every nite legs and butt cheeks every other what's this epilator what does it do I love the way my legs feel after a real close shave and my cheeks Hollyh
Hi girls,
I just started shaving this summer, tights and skinny jeans in the past. What a great feeling, expecally after a nice skin loation and painted toes. The feeling is wonderful when a cool breeze blows.
It takes an extra 15 minutes. We keep a chair in the shower. Using a double edge i work it bottom up. Most times i stop just above the knee. Guess I keep my upper half manly for my wife sake. Must learn to set limits.

Hi All,
Over the past few years I've tried all the different methods except laser. A quick appraisal, in my opinion follows. Bear in mind that naturally I am a bear (pun intended). Also, that my partner is aware and supportive so most things are easier with assistance.
Initially we started shaving with a blade on selected areas. This produced good results, but we had to use several blades as they became clogged quite quickly. Also the issue of razor burn & having to repeat often are the downsides.
Tried various creams (Veet etc.) with good results, but the smell & frequency of redoing was an issue.
During a 6 week holiday in New Zealand, we bit the bullet and did the whole shooting match with a product out of Canada called Moom for Men. It's similar to waxing but organic and less painful. The results were great and it lasted beyond the 6 weeks. Downside: Can't use it everywhere (genitals etc.) and you need someone to help for the "hard-to-reach" areas. We touched up with a razor & all was good.
For a while after retuning home, we maintained everything with a body grooming kit (electric razor). This was good, although time consuming and as time went on required more frequent sessions.
I bought a "No-No" and used it for a while. It sort of worked but they say it takes 6-8 weeks before the full effect is seen. I'm too impatient for that so it's collecting dust in a drawer somewhere.
I bought a epilator and tried it a few times but chickened out as the pain approached my threshold.
Nowadays, I go to a local waxing salon about every 4 or 5 weeks & get everything done including eyebrows, nostrils & ears. The most difficult part is booking a big enough slab of time with my preferred girl (she is great and doesnt bat an eyelid at the panties, painted toe-nails or toe rings & ankle bracelet). In all honesty, it is a bit painful and quite so in certain areas. However, the first time is definitely the worst, each subsequent visit is easier and in any case, the pain is only instantaneous, after a second or so it's subsided. We make a morning of it & go to lunch after.
Sorry about writing a book, but hopefully someone finds some of this useful.
One last note.. Regardless of which method you chose, I thoroughly recommend getting the nostrils & ears waxed. It is far less painful than I anticipated and saves having to maintain them constantly.
Hmmm! I don't have anyone that can help with trying the Moom...have to think about the possibility of biting the bullet and trying a salon waxing-though not sure if I am comfortable enough to let someone do that for/to me even if I DID find a TG friendly place-bit of a scaredey cat you know 🙂
Cynthia
I've used Moom in the past, before I got my epilator. It's nice stuff, tho I swear I'd go through a quart of it for one session. Works great, leaves skin very soft.
Hi ,
Okay I have a very extreem pain threshold so i can with stand it , so an epilater over 9 years now so thats legs arms breasts and most of my body not under arms and my private area the hair i have left is about 8% and if i do myself every 3 months if i think about it and if i dont no drama ,
now face He He ...ya ya i know ,well epilater about when i do would be about every 4 -5 days and other wise i still have to shave elc most days ,
my disadvantage is having both male and female hormones so do get hairs on my face .they are white and no lazer will touch them ,
now my advantages i have age my own hormones female and on meds over 9 years , so over all combined helps as for my head of hair as you know nothing worth having , and whats left shaved off , the reason i wear head wear ,
the cycles for hair growth verys a lot for me during the year and because how my body works and how i look its just something like other women have though some i know are far worse than i and they have hormonal issues as well for us just a fact of life and no one is bothered Remember this is only females im talking about ,males are quite different .
Now Jos had hair and shaves just hers is finer and did not have to do as often ,about every 5 days, well we were together for 35 years ,and so you know she gave birth to our 3 kids ,im if you like one of the out of every 7000 women who did not have a womb or other reasons for not , and not able to give birth ,
Sorry ,time ,how long ,oh dear ,about an hour for all of my body not including my face i would say most hairs i have body wise are my arms though if i leave it for 3 months just normal as other women ,
...noeleena...
Hello!!!
My method is simple: almost everyday in the shower with a blade.
I love that feeling of smooth skin everyday.
After the shower and whith my body still wet i apply baby oil and after a strawberry scent cream.
Great question, Holy!
An epilator is basically a high-speed electric tweezer, or bunch of tweezers. Mine is the size of an electric razor, and instead of a cutting head, it has a rotating drum with maybe a dozen sets of metal "clappers" that open and close as the drum rotates.
The effect? Very-slow-motion waxing. 🙂 You know how pulling a band-aid off quickly hurts less? That's like waxing. Epilation is not like that. Instead of the pain of a 2-inch by 1 foot swath of hair getting yanked-out of your skin in 1.5 seconds with waxing, it's more like a 1-inch by 1/2 inch patch getting yanked every 2-3 seconds.
WHEE!!!
Here are a few other tricks that I use:
- I use an exfoliating glove when showering
- Baby oil after showing while skin is still damp
- Homemade Tend Skin Recipe
I use the Tend Skin after shaving and after epilation. Keeps everything clean and reduces ingrown hairs and "razor bumps".
Enjoy!
