She floats among the shadows as the night turns into morn
And smiles at the memory of the outfit she had worn.
Her radiant beauty glowing as she danced the night away
If only in her mind. She never saw the light of day.
She hid beneath the cover of a hard and manly shell
A place that’s oh so lonely that it felt like her own hell.
She cried at the injustice that consigned her to her fate
For now she’s ready to emerge but fears that it’s too late.
While years ago, she might have been a lovely sweet young lass,
At middle age, her beauty gone, she’s lucky if she’ll pass.
But still the urge to be herself is stronger than before,
And tho’ she’s had a fleeting glimpse, she knows that she wants more.
So slowly, oh so slowly, she gives in to all the urges.
And as she does the girl inside into the world emerges.
Like baby fawns who walk as though their feet are slick as eels,
The girl who had been hidden learns to walk in her high heels.
And step by step she moves between the different ends of gender
Her destiny she faces with a smile of sweet surrender.
No more confined to live her life restricted to the night;
Announcing herself proudly as she walks into the light.
Her journey’s been a hard one but she faced it down and won
But though she’s surely blossomed, she still knows that she’s not done.
For there are many others who are struggling still today.
Who need to have a friendly guide to help them on their way.
So now she talks to those who need a kind and listening ear
As they consider too how best to overcome their fear.
She’ll spend the twilight of her years living as a mentor
And knows that she was who she was because it’s where God sent her.
don't know why it appears like that 🙁
