Asked my mother what i would have been called if i had been born a woman and she had said that her and my dad hadnt picked one for me, just my older brother if he had been a girl. So, i chose a name for myself from a book i was reading, as the woman was something i had wanted to look like and be.

My girlfriend came up with the name Cissy because I could be the little sister she never had.  Thought that was sweet.

Back in the early days of the internet I tried to join a crossdressing group. The group needed a true mug shot, a female e mail id and a femme name. I chose Josephine the feminine version of my middle name and my mothers' maiden surname. I shortened to Josie later. Josie was quite bold and did a lot of naughty things. In time she had to evade a lot of unwanted attention from male admirers whom she unwittingly attracted. I also had a nice change of heart ( born again experience) and decided to be a better person..... as I knew crossdressing would not just go away, although I prayed and prayed for it to go away, I decided to change my name for the two women I admired thee most. I took on Vera ( short for Veronica - my mother in laws name) and Jane, my mum's name............. with these two ladies watching over me I know I will walk a "straight line".... in heels or flats.... does not matter...
Vera Jane

Gemma was the name of a massuese I used a few years ago, I loved the name so when it came to thinking about a femme name for myself on these forums, I thought, yep that'll do and so Gemma was invented as my alta ego.

My fem name is Bronwyn. Name came into my head about 16 years ago. It's similar to my male name.  I haven't spoken to any other cd who has that name.

I loved the television show Bewitched that I watched endlessly as a child. I even had a longtime childhood, adolescent, and adult crush on Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery). I considered choosing Samantha as my en femme name, but hated that Darin (Samantha's husband) would often shorten it to "Sam" on the show. I never understood the writers of that show allowing Samantha (a woman) to be permitted to be called Sam (a traditional male name).

So, when Samantha became pregnant with her first daughter, and gave her the unusual name of "Tabitha", I knew that I had discovered my femme name. I even allow my close friends to endearingly call me "Tabby."

Tabitha B.

My chosen name came from one of my sister's best friends. Her name was Jackie and she was so feminine for a girl. She always wore the sexiest clothes, shoes and her makeup was always perfect. Between her and my sister they inspired me so much I not only took her name on but I did and still do do my best to look and act just like her. Then of course my favorite drag queen and comedian is Jackie Beat and she too is a true inspiration!

I chose my femme first name from a girl I had a crush on in middle school. Stephanie was a year older and just starting to develop into a woman. I remember her dresses and skirts. We were "friends" and sat on the bus together. She lived down the street. Even at that time I wanted to wear her clothing!

I have a femme last name which I don't usually tell others. It is from a woman I admired when I was living in Berkeley, CA. She was always being hit on by men! She was the epitome of feminine. I fantasized that she "married me" and I took her name like women do.

Now, I feel like two people. My male day self, and my feminine self, Stephanie W. The more time that goes by without Stephanie making an appearance, the more I can't get her out of my head.

Do you have similar thoughts, everyone?

I chose my name, Renee, for a couple of reasons.  First Renee means new beginnings which I feel is just what I was when I started dressing again after a few years.  I also had a friend in college named Renee and thought that both the name and my friend were beautiful.

Renee

I didn't choose the name Amanda. More like it chose me. When I thought about my female name I really put no work into it. I thought it's Amanda, you've been Amanda your entire life. It seemed so natural
