Ladies,

I am at a loss for words to express the sadness and horror I Feel right now after hearing of the massacre in Florida at the Pulse nightclub.  Fifty lives wiped out an at least 53 others wounded-many critically in a senseless act of violence by someone who felt the need to take out his anger on people just having a fun weekend night at a club like millions of others do everyday.

At this point it is too early to know what his motivations were-terrorism, anti-LGBT, or just plain mentally ill.  The reasoning may or may not ever be known.  Similarly there will be those who try to politicize this incident as a gun control issue instead of placing the responsibility for this heinous act where it belongs-which is on the person who committed the crime!  With time, we may learn more about WHY he felt the need to ac as he did but I can see NO justification for it -in ANY way, shape or form.

The focus should be on the families of the dead and wounded and the healing of them and their families.  I have lowered my flag to half mast and will be saying prayers for those touched directly by this tragedy and encourage others to do the same in support and loving memory of the victims.

I will never understand how people can do this to their fellow man or woman, but perhaps something could can come from the suffering.  Let us hope that this horrific crime not be fodder for hate but instead sparks a genuine debate and discussion of the many issues facing the LGBT community and just maybe this can begin the process of wider acceptance of all the forms of gender and sexual variances.  People may finally realize that NO ONE deserves to be hated, hurt or killed because of who they love or what gender they identify with.

I will sign off for now to grieve for those in Florida.

Cyn

Beautifully put Cyn and you hit the nail right on the head, what a disgusting and heinous act. It's pride week here in Canada at the end of the month and I intend on going to a couple of the events, I'm still going but this has put a fear into me that shouldn't be there.

Cynthia this was an excellent post. All our thoughts and prayers should be with the friends and families of the victims in this horrible tragedy. I only hope that some politicians don't twist and use this but that people instead will let this be a catalyst for change learning who we are and accepting us. Peace.

This is another of a lengthening string of mass murder in the US. This time it was our community that was targeted by an insanely evil person. Be it a night club, a theater, a university or a high school what they all have in common is assault weapons. Weapons that only the military as any business owning. Until the NRA loses its power over politicians or stops supporting the madness we will continue to suffer. I normally keep my tongue but today I raised my voice to a gun loving nut and hateful republican I know. He blamed all the problems on gun free zones the new NRA catch phrase. And on the president for not stopping these insane people. I knew arguing with him was pointless but I just couldn't let it go today. God help me I don't know what to do other than vote for politians who promise to stand up to the NRA and against any that do not regardless of any other issue.

Claire I just can't hold my opinion anymore. Your response was extremely hurtful. I was crushed that this man slipped through the cracks and did not get help before committing this horrible act of violence on our community. I was hurt and cried that so many died and were hurt because of flaws in society. But you made this worse for me and hurt me with your view. You lumped ALL gun owners with this anomaly. This guy did not even need guns. He had explosive devices. If you can promise this kind of tragedy will never happen again I will be the first in line to give my guns to authorities to destroy. The only reason I have any weapons at all are to protect those I love from this kind of victimization I hate confrontation and always walk away. I don't like this kind of thing at all but feel I could let this slide. By lumping of this single man with a group who is basically law-abiding you have done the same thing that people do when they try to group pedophiles and rapists with our community. I'm sorry but I couldn't hold this in. I hope I stop hurting and crying soon.

I still love you Clarie but hope you consider your words more.

Hugs and friends I hope,
Donna

PS I promise no more politics but I felt compelled to defend an innocent segment of society. Just as I would defend our community when assaulted in some way. Peace and love.

I am not attacking gun owners but I am against assault rifles. I do not own a gun and hopefully never will. I live a suburb that hasn't seen a murder in this century. Living in fear must be a terrible thing and I can understand why people feel the need to protect themselves. However escalation is not an answer. Since assault rifles have returned the use of them by insane people to kill has increased steadily. Fortunately bombs and the building of bombs is illegal or we would see more of it as well. I cry for the victims not the enablers.
