My words of wit have been astray
For troublesome life got in the way.
It got too hard to pen the rhymes
While going through the worst of times.
But as my old mate Charley D
Once jotted down for you and me
Along with worst times comes wisdom’s age
So on I go with life’s new page.
‘Tis oft we feel by society scorned
When in pretty dress we are adorned.
I’ve face those demons yet now I find
That such an outcome is far from mind.
For I’ve been shown how life’s unfair
As I watched fade away a lady once there.
Her future now’s been snatched away
As confusion befuddles every day.
So as a witness to what is unjust
I’ve realised now that I simply must
Make all I can from each day that remains
Laying aside all my worry’s pains.
For I still have my life and I still have my limbs,
And hopefully years ‘fore my intellect dims.
So I’ll live every day as the person I am
Sometimes as a “Sir” sometimes as a “Ma’am”.
‘Cos when I give thought to what matters to me
It’s to be the best person I can possibly be.
Helping a friend with some timely advice
And telling another when she looks ‘specially nice.
To offer my hand to help guide the way
Down the path that I too travelled one day.
To show I’m just normal, no matter the guise
Be it dresses or skirts, or pants manly-wise.
What’s important for all as we charter our course
Is to get up from each fall and get back on the horse.
Sit tall in the saddle with a smile on our face
And yell to the world “I’m in the right place.”
“I am who I am, and I’m so proud to say
This wasn’t a choice, I was born this way.”
For life is quite fickle and the end is uncertain,
So live each day fully ‘til the final curtain.
Hi Jane
Happy to see your spirit renewed. This is surely a journey of Ebbs & flows. It feels like some days you know for sure who you are and other days you think what the hell am I doing? but it always seems to pass because deep down we know that we are a good persons who have also made contributions to society and family in spite of our other self and will continue to do so. Acceptance is a slow progress but I find gradually you see a slight more acceptance as time moves on. you are absolutely right it is who you are and life is fickle and we should try to live each day fully til the final curtain. ( great poem )
Regards
Amanda
More lovely words from a lovely lady.
Thank you Sheryl. 🙂
JAne,
As always you meld humor and pathos together masterfully. Times like you and our family have been going through truly do make you value each precious moment in life. You are (as you have since first I met you lo these many eons(er decades....er years...er months)ago a true inspiration to me-and i try to be but a pale imitation of your wisdom and writing ability. IF I can help 1/100th of the people whose live you have touched then I would count my life a success! Thank you for your friendship and advice and caring and know that you have made a HUGE difference to so many of us including, thankfully, ME!
With phileo and agape love,
Cyn
Jane,
Since the morning/night that we first met back in November of 2015, you continue to be an inspiration.......I would give my best dress away to have the wrighting skills that you have!
Jessica!
Thank you Jessica. I appreciate the sacrifice you'd be willing to make.
I find the hardest part is taking what I find in my heart and turning it into printed word. The amazing people I've met here make that task a lot easier.
🙂
That is a great inspiration to all of us proud girls that is what is so great about CD Heaven thanks
