Members, many of you have received a spam private message from a troll who has used a variety of names, including Soniya, to attempt to elicit responses. The text of the message is usually along the lines of:
"Hello my dear, how are you? I saw your profile and became interested to know you better. I am a woman that prefer an active lifestyle. My dream is to spend time and share life with someone who will be my good friend, if you are interested in my proposal, please contact me at my email address (deleted) so I can send you my pictures and tell you more about myself. I will be waiting for you. Thank you,"
Please DO NOT RESPOND to this person. It is a scam aimed at gathering personal and even financial details. We are working hard to keep them off the site as quickly as they return. If anyone has made contact our advice is to sever it immediately and have not further contact.
As we grow we become a target for those who seek to profit from people willing to fall for the supposedly friendly and supportive messages, especially those who are insecure or vulnerable. This person does not have your best interest in mind.
Should you receive any private messages from people you don't know be suspicious. As a first step, always look at their profile here. If it contains nothing more than a name ignore the message until you have more to go on. Safety should be your first priority.
Let's keep this a safe, friendly and fun place to be by helping to keep these trolls out.
Thanks Jane for the timely article . I have been approached twice and immediately notified Codille who reassured me it was taken care of. I deleted all the messages. It is important to note that the message also appeared in my personal e-mail.
I love the support and friendship from all the girls here at CDH. I guess I am naive at times and think there are no predators around.
Thank you Jane, Codille, all the moderators on CDH who are here to support us and keep us safe.
Regards,
Leonara
Thank you .
We to have gotten that same, email, u told my husband to delete it. It's good there are people looking out for us here. So thank you dear again for all you do for the ladies here.
Thanks Jane, I suspected as much after finding the profiles already deleted. Like Leonara, I have had two of these messages, so far. There is a silver lining in not being logged in as often as I would like. For myself, there has been enough of a time lag between the initial contact and my receiving the message to automatically create some distance. Its a shame that we have to deal with this kind of nuisance here in CDH. I feel that many of us come to this site to escape these more unpleasant aspects of the everyday world.
It is important to note that the message also appeared in my personal e-mail.
Hi Leonara,
Do you mean that the spam message was sent to your personal email, or was it an email notification from CDH that you'd received the private message in your CDH inbox? The email notifications of messages contain the message text as well.
Hi Jane
I have received 3 of these messages all deleted immediately thanks for keeping us all safe.
Hugs Andrea
I've gotten one of those and knew it was spam the minute I read it. Thanks for the heads up though.
I have recived this message also and I told her I was not interested with out information about her so I deleted it we have to be careful of crooks in this world
Thanks Jane and all the ambassadors your time and effort. This is a wonderful site.
Jillian
I received the same message, I sent it to Codille, bam the kabosh was there.
I've done some website support/moderation in the past. Staying ahead of spammers is the worst part of the job, by far. Back when I did it, they mostly just wanted to make accounts and post links to up their Google ranking. (And that type of spammer still exists, sadly.) Those were hard enough to try and stay ahead of.
Thanks to Jane, Codile, and the other ambassadors for keeping CDH spam-free and judgement free!
Hi Jane
I have the message regarding fake email in a big yellow box covering most of my screen but it won't let me scroll all the water to the bottom to see if I can remove it any help would be most grateful.
Andrea
Hi JaneS,
The first email was via CDH and the second one was direct email with my private address. That one I deleted without opening after the notification from Codille...
Thanks again for your vigilance
Leonara
Andrea, if you mean the message from Codille that pops up when you first open CDH there is a 'Close' option in the bottom right of the message box. Click that and all should be back to normal.
Hi Jane,
I have the same problem as Andrea, I can scroll the screen behind the yellow box but not the box itself. This means I cannot get to the close option at the bottom.
Hugs
Sheryl
