Aww that stinks Katey, I'm sorry to hear that.   There is no reason for being a jerk, no good reason anyway.  Being a little polite is no more difficult than being rude. If you are going to give someone the time of day - of your own free will now - well, give them some basic courtesy with it.

Don't start hating apples just because you pick up a bad one though, hon. 🙂

Hi Katey...

Ever since the beginnings of the internet the opportunity has always been there to become invisible. So... to tell a little story of my drab days...

I met a wonderful, intelligent, clever individual (X) online in 1997 when I was in a chat room discussing fixes for a coding problem. X had some extremely elegant fixes and we began to look for one another in the chat room on a more than daily basis. I liked this X and the more we had contact the more we seemed to have in common. Now... I didn’t know if X was male or female but my feelings towards X were growing uncomfortable until I had to ask the question... what gender are you?

Female was the answer... much to my relief! (I may identify as female but I’m still ‘straight’/lesbian) So we decided to meet in Stockholm on a lovely spring day and so I sent her a pic of myself but she said she didn’t have one. OK, I’m at a disadvantage but the meeting point established (outside the opera house) all was in train.

Come the day I arrived at the opera house and walked up and down... waiting to see a single female walking but no such walked by. Aha, I saw a delightful redhead leaning against a tree... up walked I and introduced myself but... nothing. She just looked at me and turned her head away. So... back to the beat outside the opera house...

Looking at my watch... now half an hour late. Hmmm... then, I saw a single woman coming around the corner! But... she was walking with two sticks and looked twenty years older than I! Oh, God... what to do?

Well, readers... I chickened out and hid around the opposite corner until she got on a bus and departed! How embarrassing! I am ashamed to admit it but I thought to email her and find some excuse to explain my absence!

Shame on me!

I turned to leave and felt a tap on my shoulder... it was the redhead from before! It was actually her in the first instance... she had seen the whole hiding stuff and thought it was as funny a thing as she had seen! Well...

So, people have various ways of dealing with their own failings and the internet makes it so much easier!

There will be others as I have found here on CDH!

Love Polly xxx

I think someone flaking is an inherent risk with any encounter.  I've lost count of how many times it's happened.  Since the Internet it's become commonplace.  I generally have low expectations when I meet someone.  If they show up, great!  If not, I always have a backup plan.  No point letting a flake ruin my outing!

Hi Emily, thank you so much for your reply. Its just irritating and rude for people to act this way. I am venting because I really don't get why people have to be so rude. Thank you again for your reply, have a great day!! Hugs-Katey

Hi Polly, thank you for sharing your story. You are correct we all have our own ways of "dealing" with certain decisions or choices. I think my issue here is that my expectations of how to treat people was not met and I got a little upset. Thank you again for sharing, and you along with everyone here has been a great sister to me. Hugs-Katey
