While wearing a particular outfit, dress, skirt, etc, have you ever experienced a negative emotional experience?  So much so that you link the negative emotions and/or experience to the outfit.

For example, just seeing the dress or outfit instantly triggers a flood of the negative memories of that day and the experiences you had?

One way you ease the pain is to trash or donate the dress or outfit.  Sort of an out-of-sight, out-of-mind cure all.

Just curious if I am the only one to ever had this experience?

Several years ago I was going thru a box of old stuff when I came across a pair of my ex-wife's panties.  Within seconds they were in the trash.  Does that count?

@emilyalt If I'd come across a pair of my exes panties I would have destroyed them in a controlled explosion.

@ellyd22 I did briefly consider a fire but decided unceremonious disposal was a more fitting end to that bad memory.

@ellyd22 In my case, an exorcism might be warranted...

@emilyalt

Yes, that is a pretty good example of what I was trying to describe.

@emilyalt Almost 10 years ago my ex borrowed a suitcase when she had to go out of town for a funeral.  Fast forward to 2 years ago when I had to go out of town, I looked through the suitcase she borrowed before I packed it and found she left a pair of panties behind.  Nothing special, just a pair of black cotton briefs, but I put them into my weekend rotation.  I usually put them on under a pair of gym shorts while I'm cleaning the house.  They're super soft and comfortable, thats the only reason I kept them.

@amysmissy I guess every situation is different.  I couldn't fathom a reason to keep, much less wear, something my ex-wife wore.  Too many bad memories.

! So funny Emily!

On the contrary, I have emotions thinking about clothes that I have thrown away in purges. And I would love to have them now.

@carla66 Oh Carla I can so relate to this. I have purged a few things that I would love to have again.

@carla66 So relatable!  I have so many things that were lost in purges that I miss dearly!  A few pairs of boots, cute dresses, my open toe platform slingbacks, ............sniff, sniff....

@carla66 I've lost count of how many times I purged.  I'm sure the amount of clothes I've tossed exceeds my current wardrobe several times....and I'm full-time.  I absolutely do miss most of the things I purged.  At least the last few purges went to charity, so I can feel good that they presumably found a good home.

I haven't as any outfit past or present has a positive memory. There are clothes I remember affectionately from my early days.

Probably the opposite as there is a dress I have that is one of the oldest. It is now retro and I think my.mum gave it to me  many moons ago. It didn't fit her but was from the 70's, it's looked after and still worn once a year and gets compliments.

Circa 40 years ago I wore a black pant suit and 4" black heels to Fantazia Fair, The Tiffany Club of New Englands' annual CD/TS conference in Provincetown Mass.

Thought I was in for a great time but only after a few hours of being all glammed up, I had a very concerning health episode, so I "panicked", left a brand new wig and breat forms on my hotel room bed and "fled" (in the middle of the night) all teh way back to my hotel in Boston.

I'd been travelling "on the run: for two weeks before hand an all the stress of thr trip led to my "complaint".

It all turned out OK in the end, but I;ve never forgotten to fright I got that night and I doubt if I ever wore than pant suit again.

These days it would not fit me...and the heels would wreck my back  Minor details....
