@sandf Need more input.

A first outing to an indoor party, a walk through a park, driving a car, a stroll through your neighbourhood at night, standing all day at work?

@harriette Tomorrow I have to go, all hunted, to a party between Sisters at the house of one of them, where men will also be present, driving the car for several miles

@sandf Wear something practical in the car while driving, slip on the 4" heels for the party, carry in the 6" heels for when you feel adventurous.

Like most of the girls here, I'd go with the shorter heels.  You'll blend in better.  They're easier to walk/stand in.  And they'll probably hurt less.  Wearing flats while driving is a good idea.

Don't get me wrong.  REALLY high heels (6+ inches) are undeniably sexy and a ton of fun to wear.  But they're not practical for most social settings.  Save them for the dance club or bedroom.

@sandf Definitely 6". Love that almost tottering feeling and it makes me walk more feminine I believe. Murder on my calves after though!

@sandf I think it all depends on you and how you feel and are comfortable with. If you are not nervous and can comfortability walk in both, then it comes down to how much attention you want to draw to yourself. The higher the heel the more attention you will get.  For me I was super nervous, so I went with 3in heels. I was very comfortable with them, so it was one less thing to worry about.  Nothing ends a fun time out like falling or twisting an ankle.

@jessicaskye231 Honestly on the 6" high heels I walk very comfortable and very safe in them, although I have been wearing them for about 25 years always at home.... thinking about it actually the ground outside the house is not as smooth as the floor of the house , so I think I better choose to wear 4.5" heels
thank you my sister

@sandf 6"... although it's barely practical, and 4.5" is a smart height... so when I go out for the night in 6" + I budget dancing and at times carry a relief pair! ❤️ 🌹 🍓

@sandf On a first outing, you will have many things on your mind.  Adding to this by having to navigate hobbling around on really high heels is a complication that you can avoid.   I'd stick to something in the 3.5 to 4 inch range.   They still look sexy but are easier to get around in.

In any case, have a wonderful time!  I'm sure it will be life changing for you sister!

@sandf Where are you going? That will help make the decision.

If it's truly the first time you are going out I'd suggest 4" or maybe even 3". Make it easy on yourself. Have you ever heard the term "Sittin' Shoes"? Well that's because after awhile those shoes make you just want to sit and rest your feet.

If it's just for show and a little while wear what you like.

Have you worn 6" heels? I tried them Once. I couldn't even stand in them. If you can walk in them Bless you.

Sandra, I have been out wearing 4 inch heels and I know I would not be walking in them long before my feet start to hurt..  but, I do need to lose some weight.  If you are lighter you might do better.

Depends on where you are going and what you are doing but I'd personally go with the 4.5".  Easier to walk in and will make you shorter if you are looking to blend in more

If I were younger I would go for the 4.5in heels, easier to walk in and less painful, but alas I'm not young anymore so 2.5 to 3in heels are all I can manage today.

Good luck,

Lacy

Dear Holly et al.

You ladies have me by a country mile....My 'happy place' is at or about  3 & 1/2 inches...4 is an accident ready to happen. But I own a pair or two, and if and when I wear them, I make sure I have my cell phone, and 911 ON SPEED DIAL.

Love and Hugs and Sincerely,

Thea

Two inches is about my maximum.

Even then I have to hang on to railings.

Professor Ellie,

Inlieu of a rocking chair (symbolic of retirement), how about we at CDH take up a collection for a  "hurrycane". I believe this walking stick is equipped with 3 pods...so even if you're donning 3-4 inch heels and 'THREE SHEETS to the wind', WE GOT YOU. Now, all you'll need is a LIFE ALERT device.

Love, Hugs, and Let's Practice Walking on Tippy Toes.

I think I'd prefer a motorised bar stool with its own built in wine rack and make-up mirror.

Perhaps an off-road version so I can drive it home after I've left the pub.

It depends on your height and if you can walk in heels, I suppose. Nothing wrong with flats or a 1" heel.

I have a pair of 6" heels which I can walk in for short distances, have to duck to go through a doorway and they are totally impractical for walking further than a few yards in. I use them for photoshoots.

I get by fine with a 3" heel which I can wear for a whole day.

Hi ladies,

I love wearing heels. To bring this off one MUST be able to walk in them, and that includes pavement.

For me 2 1/2 inches works perfectly.

Two weeks ago I was out for the first time in 6 months. I went to a boutique here in Tucson.

I bought a lovely bracelet and when I left the lady told me that I walk very, very well in heels.

Made my day,

Christine

I’d recommend the heels that you are the most comfortable wearing.  I have some 5” heels that are very comfortable, but taking any long steps is next to impossible in them.  When I got out the first time, I wore my 4” heels, since I had practiced a lot at home.  But I quickly found out that walking on the level smooth surfaces at home as a lot less challenging than walking on un level ground.  So my advice is be careful and comfortable.

I'm with Ellie. As you know, my opportunities are few and far between. Last June I had a lovely pair of 3" heels but I found them hard to walk in. Heck at last year's makeover Cindy put me in 5" heels and I literally couldn't stand up 😂. This year I wore 2" silver strappy sandals and I loved them xx.

I'm taking a selection of my own shoes to my makeover in July.

I want to be able to actually walk around!

Shoes aren't made for walking

Mine are 🙂

I've got a lovely little collection of ankle boots, plus some wedges ... and some relatively understated heels.

As part of the makeover I'll be going out and about. A bit of shopping, maybe a coffee, in the company of the makeup artist.

I don't want to be tottering along holding grimly to her shoulder and falling flat on my face every few steps.

I go out all the time and wear heels often Sandra.  I have 5" pumps but usually opt for 4" when out & about, dancing, walking any distance from the car.  I only wear single sole heels, I assume you are talking about single sole stilettos and not platform heels.

My advice, two things.. be practical, its your first time out.. you will have enough on your mind than concentrating on walking & even standing in those 6" stilettos.  Wear the 4 1/2" ones.  Second, bring a pair of ballet flats with you just in case things don't go according to plan.

My advice is not to wear heels for your first time out. Wear something more comfortable, it's one less thing to worry about for your first time.

4 1/2 heels and I would carry the flats in my purse. I can only resist high heels for a couple of hours.

For heels, my range of functional utility is rather narrow. I can go all day on my 3 1/2" kitten heels, and I can get by up to 4 1/2" but at 5" I feel like I'm falling down stairs in slow motion. Not practical, but super sexy. My wife calls them bed shoes!

I'll second the advice to keep it simple for your first time out. There will be enough going on!

hi Nikki
many, like you, have given me the advice what heels to use for my first outing ... i think i'll go out in 4.5" heels, 6" heels actually i think are a bit too sexy .... maybe i'll take them in the car and leave them in the trunk, you never know if they'll be needed Blushing

Wow..lots of good info.  Personally I wear what seems to called 12 cm in heel height. That being a single sole. The platform soles for me anyway seem to get fairly stable at around 5 in. But like whats' been said,  We have enough to navigate when out without worrying what we're gonna trip over. Most of my 12cm or about 4 3/4 in are perfect, all day and into the nite. Gotta love our desire to be beautiful.  I sure do !!
