Which high heels to choose, for a likely first outing, 4.5“ or 6” ?
....accept advice from those who have already gone out

Sandra, I have been out wearing 4 inch heels and I know I would not be walking in them long before my feet start to hurt.. but, I do need to lose some weight. If you are lighter you might do better.
Depends on where you are going and what you are doing but I'd personally go with the 4.5". Easier to walk in and will make you shorter if you are looking to blend in more
If I were younger I would go for the 4.5in heels, easier to walk in and less painful, but alas I'm not young anymore so 2.5 to 3in heels are all I can manage today.
Good luck,
Lacy
For just looking and appreciating, 6"... for actually walking somewhere and being more like a real girl, 4.5"... I can't really walk in anything higher than about 4.5" anyway... Holly XXX
It depends on your height and if you can walk in heels, I suppose. Nothing wrong with flats or a 1" heel.
I have a pair of 6" heels which I can walk in for short distances, have to duck to go through a doorway and they are totally impractical for walking further than a few yards in. I use them for photoshoots.
I get by fine with a 3" heel which I can wear for a whole day.
Hi ladies,
I love wearing heels. To bring this off one MUST be able to walk in them, and that includes pavement.
For me 2 1/2 inches works perfectly.
Two weeks ago I was out for the first time in 6 months. I went to a boutique here in Tucson.
I bought a lovely bracelet and when I left the lady told me that I walk very, very well in heels.
Made my day,
Christine
I’d recommend the heels that you are the most comfortable wearing. I have some 5” heels that are very comfortable, but taking any long steps is next to impossible in them. When I got out the first time, I wore my 4” heels, since I had practiced a lot at home. But I quickly found out that walking on the level smooth surfaces at home as a lot less challenging than walking on un level ground. So my advice is be careful and comfortable.
I'm with Ellie. As you know, my opportunities are few and far between. Last June I had a lovely pair of 3" heels but I found them hard to walk in. Heck at last year's makeover Cindy put me in 5" heels and I literally couldn't stand up 😂. This year I wore 2" silver strappy sandals and I loved them xx.
I go out all the time and wear heels often Sandra. I have 5" pumps but usually opt for 4" when out & about, dancing, walking any distance from the car. I only wear single sole heels, I assume you are talking about single sole stilettos and not platform heels.
My advice, two things.. be practical, its your first time out.. you will have enough on your mind than concentrating on walking & even standing in those 6" stilettos. Wear the 4 1/2" ones. Second, bring a pair of ballet flats with you just in case things don't go according to plan.

My advice is not to wear heels for your first time out. Wear something more comfortable, it's one less thing to worry about for your first time.
4 1/2 heels and I would carry the flats in my purse. I can only resist high heels for a couple of hours.

For heels, my range of functional utility is rather narrow. I can go all day on my 3 1/2" kitten heels, and I can get by up to 4 1/2" but at 5" I feel like I'm falling down stairs in slow motion. Not practical, but super sexy. My wife calls them bed shoes!
I'll second the advice to keep it simple for your first time out. There will be enough going on!
Wow..lots of good info. Personally I wear what seems to called 12 cm in heel height. That being a single sole. The platform soles for me anyway seem to get fairly stable at around 5 in. But like whats' been said, We have enough to navigate when out without worrying what we're gonna trip over. Most of my 12cm or about 4 3/4 in are perfect, all day and into the nite. Gotta love our desire to be beautiful. I sure do !!
OOHHH. it's gotta be a pr of my 4.5 in stilettoes
