I’ve used a lot of different cameras over the years. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pics from back in the ‘film’ days. Despite the fact that I was into photography and could develop my own prints. I’m not an expert or anything, but I know my way around a DSLR and I’ve used a Canon with a tripod, remote and 50mm lens to take some of my favorite selfie shots.

These days, smart phone cameras are so good that you don’t really need anything else. I put my  iPhone on a tripod with an adapter I bought on Amazon and use the 10 second timer. It works well.

The thing with photography that I think gets lost is just the basics of how you set up your scene. Photograph yourself from slightly above, if you can do it. Try and clear out the room and give yourself a nice, non-cluttered background. Use soft, natural light from a window instead of a harsh flash, if you have that option. The little things help.
