Love the question.  I was 16 and could drive where i wanted when i wanted (within teenage limits) and i headed downtown to the local Dept store.  Nervous as all get out.  Heart beating two miles a minute but i did it!  No eye contact, of course, but made the purchase.  Just panties, white briefs with lace panels,  but they were mine, all mine! And so my borrowing days were over.
