Mmmm… I have to disagree. Back in the late 70’s my father was interrogated by the KGB twice when we visited family, shown photo’s and asked whether he knew certain people back in the UK. He of course denied everything. As a UK citizen he was somewhat protected.
I have an uncle who was a major in the KGB. He took my dad to one side and said “be careful what you say, even to the family.” We were not allowed out of the flat without an escort and our itinerary included being taken to certain “patriotic” places such as war museums, and even Katyn Forest where a completely different narrative is given.
