My journey began at 11 but up until 21 it was a closely guarded secret. The first person to find out was my sister and she’s thankfully been really supportive. But, around 26 I went through a purge for three years and tried to just be “normal”. When I recovered from my purge, and started to work on self-acceptance I knew hiding this part of myself just wouldn’t work. And so I started opening up about to a few friends I trusted and even a cousin. Being able to tell even just a small handful of people I know in person has been a huge weight of my shoulders.
