It seems to be a realization and discovery process analogous to peeling an onion. So many say that they knew there was something different about them at very young ages compared to their peers, but they had no understanding and no vocabulary. Many years later that understanding and vocabulary eventually came into play.

I live in a town that is 60% Latinx and about 50% for the entire Valley. Probably at least 75% of the time when I am misgendered here it is by a Latinx person. This is often the case even before I speak and in spite of the fact that I am nicely dressed with a wide brim hat, full makeup, jewelry, not insignificant boobs, an above the knee skirt and 3” heels. Best guess is that their religion comes into play and doesn’t allow the consideration of anything beyond the binary.

As always, it is a journey…
