My ideal is a mixture of pockets and a handbag.
I wish I could get away with having a handbag in guy mode. It would help offload some of the things I carry. But I still like having pockets for a few essentials such as keys or phone.
When I’m out taking a walk in girl mode, if it’s warmer weather I’ll wear a fanny pack to hold my camera and phone. In the colder weather I’ll just put it in the coat pocket, which is also good to keep your hands warm if it’s too warm for gloves and too cold for bare hands. I also like pockets on quick shopping trips to hold membership and credit cards rather than having to dig into my handbag for them in my wallet. I’ll have the handbag with me, but the quick access is a nice convenience. If I don’t have pockets I’ll use one of the front pockets in the handbag.
I’m so used to going out with keys and a wallet in my pocket that it feels funny (like I’m missing something) when I just have everything in my handbag. I’m also concerned because the handbag contains everything: wallet with drivers license and credit cards, car and house keys, and phone which is not only a communication device. For some, the phone is a digital wallet, remote starter for the car, or controls things in the home.
My other handbag worries is that it gets caught in my wig, particularly taking it off and putting it on my shoulder (whether same side or cross body). Sure you can lift the hair up but it tends to pull the wig up as well meaning I have to try to readjust it without it being obvious.
I can’t say that I love them, but I don’t hate them either.
