I don’t know if my name selection story is interesting, but I’ll share anyway.
When I decided to create my first online account (on another site), I hadn’t even considered that I’d need a female name. I was stopped dead in my tracks by the sign-up form….utterly clueless what to put down. Being the analytical type, I proceeded to find the “perfect” name. As you might guess, this went nowhere fast. By the end of the day I had no name, no account, and a memorable headache. I downed some Tylenol and a shot of Makers and slept on it.
Renewed and refreshed the next morning, Emily popped into my head. That’s who I would be. But then what to do about a last name? Not wanting to repeat the previous day’s frustration, I started thinking about words that might describe my alternative lifestyle. That’s when it struck me. Alt. Short for alternative. I would be Emily Alt!
So there you have it. The story of how Emily got her name.
As an aside, I chose my name before I realized I was trans. I now have to consider what my legal name will be. There’s a good chance it won’t be Emily. More to be revealed….
