Lesson learned.

People can be real characters. At one job, a manager would just ignore me if I just started up a normal conversation, so I quickly learned to get his attention first by calling his name, “Ron…”. After he acknowledged my existence, then I said what had to be said.

You mother didn’t want to be surprised, so she learned how to protect herself.
