Thanks Angela for your reply. You know you might be right. It may have been her not expecting me to laugh at all or not expecting such a deep laugh. Either way thinking about it neither means she definitely was questioning if I was a female or not. Maybe I just reacted in a way she didn’t expect. Maybe it is a bit of a case of me jumping to the worst case scenario which I do have a bit of a habit of doing.
Only once have I ever felt like someone was on to who I really was. It was the first time I had ever filled up my car with petrol while female. I hadn’t put on any makeup but had a wig and was fully dressed. I went into the shop to pay and a man of about 40 years old was behind the counter. I could tell as I walked to the counter he was looking me up and down in a bit of a sleazy way. I said my pump number and tapped my card and said thank you. He replied You’re welcome MATE!! Really putting emphasis on the word mate. In Australia a man calls another man mate all the time but not a woman. Alarm bells rang off in my head as I walked as fast as I could to my car and drove off and have never been back to that servo even as my male self. I now always wear makeup and do a double check that there is nothing that could put doubt into anyone’s mind that I’m not just a normal woman and haven’t had any issues ever since.
