Thought I would share a very positive experience I had recently in lingerie shopping and how sometimes challenging ourselves can be so positive and experience.  I would preface by saying I personally feel that of all the womens clothing available, wearing a bra is one of the most feminine style and feel I can wear.  It constantly hugs and reminds you of your feminine side and CD persona all the time you have it on.  My challenge has always been to find the right size, style and fit.  I would buy in person hurriedly in a shop on the pretense of being for someone else and inevitable have one with back or shoulder straps wrong, poor fitting and end up with bra band extenders or similar.  I just wanted to be able to go and get a proper fitting and be able to try on before I brought and find a style I liked and looked good on me.  Well just recently I decided I was sick of hiding who I was and to muster up the courage to try and do a proper shop for bras.  I phoned a local lingerie specialist shop and nervously explained I was a CD and wanted to get help with a bra fitting.  I explained I did not want to cause any awkwardness for either the store staff or customers (sadly it only takes one other customer to make a scene) by being in fitting rooms and trying bras on. The staff could not be more understanding or helpful on the phone.   They welcomed me to come down and would ensure discretion with other shoppers.  So the next day , first time ever, I summoned up all my courage and ventured into the lingerie shop, introduced myself as the caller from previous day and spent one of the best lingerie shopping days I have had.  I was very nervous at start but a mature lady helped me and we worked out sizes, styles and colours.  Then they let me use the changing rooms and I could try to my hearts content.  They brought in over 20 different bras and then to my surprise started to find matching panties for some of the bras and styles of other lingerie for me to try.  I have never experienced such a liberating day and a feeling of what it would be like to shop for intimates as a woman before.  Needless to say I found some perfect bras – I prefer underwire but also went wirefree, and made awesome purchases.  I learnt a lot about what I like and also what actually fits and does not.  As I say there is nothing like fastening up the back clasps of a proper fitting lace bra and then wearing for the day.  If I hadn’t of gone out on a limb and challenged myself I would have missed the whole experience.  To finish the story, as I knew my sizing from the day out, I was on line that night and saw another local lingerie store clearing stock out and spied a longline bra in my exact size marked down from $130 to just $20!!. I couldn’t believe the bargain and I knew it would fit.   Needless to say I snapped it up and it fits so well.  Longline are a great bra but just has to be right size.  Anyway, in the scope of life maybe a simple day by anyone elses standards but for me these are sometimes the best and having a day not being judged but treated equal and allowed to show and enjoy my feminine side makes it all worth while.

Wonderful story Martina, your courage is inspiring and also the professionalism of th shop staff gives me hope that attitudes can change for the better, we need more people like that in this world.

Thanks Diana, nice to also say hello.  It was an amazing experience and to me shows how attitudes are slowly changing.  20 years ago the day would have been impossible as there was no way I would have been so accepted in a retail environment.  I also could not have had the courage to have done it within myself.  I did later call the store after I left and just thanked the staff again and expressed my appreciation for all their help, patience and non judgement.  I learnt a lot that day about what I can do as well as how others can see me.

Martina you are so right in saying things are changing, after reading your story I thought about accompanying my mother to shops like that when I was a boy in the 1960’s and thought about how some of the dragons that you found in those places would have reacted to someone like ourselves in their shop daring to want to buy a bra I shudder. Things might be changing slowly but at least they are moving in the right direction.

          💋 Diana.

What a great, uplifting story Martina!

I really enjoyed reading and couldn’t help but smile for you.

I think calling ahead and explaining the situation was a very smart move and I had already decided to do same when I go to a mani and pedi session in a few months when things are safer and I’ve had my vaccine.

I hope this is the first of many outings like that and that your femme wardrobe grows very large 🙂

I agree about the longline bras. When your “girls” are not actually attached to your chest, the longline helps keep everything in their proper place!

And yes, I AM girl enough to hook a bra on from behind! 🙂

On a longline Julie that is a feat and one I struggle with!.  – but worth the effort with the look achieved!!.

      Hi Martina,

A fabulous story.  Thanks for sharing.  It’s great to support your local community.  And being fitted for the correct size is key to getting a proper fitting bra.

i tried on dresses once at macy’s in SF. First in the regular ladies area, but felt awkward when a woman and her daughter where in the next stall. I found some more dresses, and went over to the bridal area and asked if I could try them on there. They were so accommodating!
As for the bra, I’ve shopped a local lingerie store here where I live and found a AA size one that feels GREAT!! Talking about feeling feminine. I understand women find it a pain to where, but for me…instant girl!!

Good luck on your road and congratulations on your next shopping trip. I’ll have to wait until post-covid to do as you did, as the dressing rooms here are all closed.

Martina, that was fantastic! What a wonderful experience. I called ahead for my wig shopping, they were completely accommodating and so professional. It’s a medium small town. I was their 1st cross dresser although they had two transgender girls before so they were fine with me. Unless shopping in a big box store (Wal-Mart, Target), calling ahead is a great idea.

thank you Beth, glad you have had enjoyable experiences as well.  I think its what makes the difference between just buying something versus actually shopping for something.  hugs martina

Hi Marina, it’s something I’m definitely going to do. My GG BF really needs some new bras so will go together. She wears c and d cups even though she’s a DD in my eyes. It can’t not see it now. She needs a fitting I need some nice bras, we already have it down on our list. Just need to save up as I know I’ll spend too much 😅😅. Can’t wait for the UK to reopen to do it.

      Love Trisha.

Thanks Trisha. Hope you can go soon and have a great day. Even better to top off some shopping with a coffee and girl chat.  Have watched the UK lockdown and pandemic from afar down here. Love and thoughts to all of you. Stay safe and I just hope daily life can return soon to some normality for you all. Hugsxx

      Martina,

Your comment on the “hugging” from a bra that ALWAYS reminds me how much a woman I want to be, how much a woman I have become is so true.

Wear a bra, even after two years, sends me a lovely ecstasy.
