Steffani’s original post
I’m looking to add some new clothes to the wardrobe. I have panties, leggings, camis and a pair of jean shorts. What else would be a must have item in the wardrobe? Recommended items should be for a college age lady. Ms. Steffani isn’t a party animal though. So something cute and famine ,but not revealing. thanks ladies.

Here are a few thoughts:
Women’s jeans (J. Brand, Rag & Bone, or whatever designer fits you in a way that jeans typically fit women (i.e., fitted). Get several washes: indigo blue, light blue, black and maybe even burgundy.
Leggings in different colors: black, and any other color you like.
Women’s sox: buy a couple dozen pairs. Macy’s sell cute girly sox with patterns, colors, and stripes. Throw away all of your male sox and underwear if you’re committed to this.
Panties – a couple dozen of these too. First decide how much coverage you want – full briefs or thongs? High cut briefs are another option. Victoria’s Secret has a large selection of all styles (and panties are currently on sale there).
Cardigan sweaters. Look for styles and colors at Nordstrom, Macy’s, J.Jill or anywhere that sells quality like Ann Taylor.
Women’s turtlenecks. Women’s Cowl Neck sweaters.
Scoop neck t-shirts. V-necks too.
Scarves in a variety of colors and fabrics.
Women’s jewelry, including stud earrings.
Women’s button-down shirts (Chico’s).
Maybe a poncho.
Women’s blouses.
3/4 sleeve t-shirts.
Long sleeve layer shirts (Nordstrom, Chico’s)
Shoes, of course.
Hope this helps 😉

That was a great list Julia! I really liked how you included accessories and the stores to shop at. Do you know if links are allowed in the forums? if so i’d like to share a couple ideas I have.

Julia’s list is awesome – even if stud earrings are impossible for me. 🙂
To her list, I’ll add: denim skirts. You can get from short and sassy down to ankle length. They’re flexible – you can wear ’em with t-shirts in the summer or tights and sweater in the winter. You can dress ’em up or dress ’em down.

Thanks for the addition Rose. Never done a skirt before. Do you have a store ,or brand that is your favorite?

I like pumps and platforms. I have several of each. For pantyhose I often wear Legg’s Sheer Energy and JC Penney Sheer Caress. Those are both real nice pantyhose for a reasonable price.

Yes, as far as I know. Please show your links. What’s the worst thing that could happen? Someone will delete your post (but that someone won’t be me 😉

If you don’t mind sharing Rose, why are stud earrings impossible for you?
I’ve gotten thousands of compliments (even from complete strangers) over my stud earrings. I’ve always thought of my earrings as part of my look, and I proudly wear them every day. The minor pain from piercing my ears was totally worth it, and one can always take them off!

More clothing ideas:
A woman’s coat (Nautica makes them – sold at Macy’s – and you can also find quality coats at Nordstrom).
A fleece jacket (The North Face makes a lovely one… women come up to me and want to hug me – totally worth it 😉
A rain coat – I found a raspberry colored one with a hood at Land’s End.
Faux suede leggings (made by Hue).
A variety of hats (I like berets).
Women’s boots if you live where it snows.
Tall leather (or faux leather) boots for fall.
Jogger pants (very chic – sold at Anthropologie).
The best way to discover the basics about women’s clothes is to actually go to stores where these clothes are sold. I spent five or more hours (three to four days a week) shopping when I first started. What an education!
Read Allure Magazine or visit their website and subscribe to their daily emails. Also Glamour and Marie Claire. Depending on your age, you might consider websites targeted toward younger women. Or if you’re a mature woman, read magazines like Oprah’s magazine, O.
And if you’re a fashion sponge like I am, just hang out with women all day and stop looking at men (unless you find them attractive… but even then you don’t need to pay attention to their clothes 😉

The Victoria’s Secret link has expired. Please check it to see if it’s still working on your end.
The white scarf would be (for me) “too safe” of a choice – I would choose a colored pattened scarf myself. But white may flatter your complexion. For me, it would just wash me out.
The Essential V-Neck Tee is cute. Do you have chest hair? It’s a low cut v-neck, so no chest hair with this one. Lots of great color choices!
The Aerie Real Soft® Long Sleeve Tee is also cute. Go for it.
The AEO Denim X Cafe Kick Boot Jean looks nice in the photo. Have you tried it on yet?Bring on the panty links too 😉

The one I have now is Dickies, and I got it on Amazon. But most – if not all – of the jeans companies also make skirts. - November 1, 2016 at 6:14 pm #33598
In looking over these panty choices, I decided that everyone is entitled to wear any underwear they wish 😉
Nothing wrong with these at all. If you like the styles and colors, give them a try.
I wear pink, purple, and striped panties. And lots of other colors too: powder blue, lacy panties, and even one pair of whites. Really, this comes down to personal preference. But I will say one more thing about panty choices: You’ve got to pay attention to how much room you need. I would be spilling out of some styles (thongs especially). And some might be too tight. Do you know your panty size? That would be helpful for sure. I would only buy panties after trying them on (at least the first time for each style). And whatever you do, make sure that the panties have a cotton liner. That’s more sanitary than wearing panties that are entirely nylon or polyester. Your choices are age appropriate too.
Do you have the courage to walk into Victoria’s Secret and ask to use a fitting room? You would probably have more luck with this if you show up completely wearing women’s clothes, including a handbag. Nowadays VS is more open to crossdressers than they were ten years ago. In my case, I asked to see bras and the sales associate starting putting them on me (on top of my shirt) right in the middle of the store. To me it was totally fun. But I could some people feeling a bit embarrassed by that.
- November 1, 2016 at 6:28 pm #33600Anonymous
I do have some panties already from VS and aerie and I’m a medium. I went to VS twice in person. The first time I just looked around and didn’t buy. The second time I bought some panties and a pair of tights. Didn’t use the dressing room, but got lucky that they fit when I got home. I haven’t gone out en femme yet, I’m very much in the closet about it.

would a bra be a must have item?
- November 2, 2016 at 6:40 am #34165
would a bra be a must have item?
No – unless you want to wear a bra, there are no CD “rules” that would require you to do so.
Some find comfort in having curves up top accentuated by a bra, whereas others simply find bras uncomfortable. I’m a firm believer that it isn’t necessary to wear something uncomfortable just because it’s the same garment that typical women wear.
The same thing applies to wearing high heels. If you aren’t comfortable with anything, in my opinion it isn’t necessary to force yourself to wear it. Try buying a pair of heels at a discount store like Ross Dress for Less. Practice at home. If you enjoy the experience, then consider buying a nicer pair later.
This is just my opinion. Others here may have different opinions, so only consider my perspective as one of many.

Also consider reality itself: The vast majority of women in most cities in the world aren’t wearing high heels on a daily basis. Where I live (in Santa Barbara, California) 99.9% of women wear flat shoes, athletic shoes, or nicer shoes without high heels every day of the week. They may or may not wear heels on New Year’s Eve, but apart from special celebration days (and maybe weddings) you won’t see women wearing high heels on the street at all. Why is this, you ask? That’s because high heels are bad for your back; they can damage your feet; it’s hard to walk in a way that’s natural and easy if you’re perched up on 5″ or 6″ heels, even if you’ve mastered the skill of doing so. It’s difficult to move around with any speed or dexterity if you’re wearing high heels on a daily basis. There’s a chance of stumbling in heels; accidents occur sometimes that can injure your ankles. Professionals in orthopedics don’t endorse the daily use of high heels. Most women, once mature, don’t see high heels as a necessary part of their daily look. Unless you live in a large city like New York and work in the fashion industry or have any other type of high profile job (a bank officer, political operative, corporate employee, and so on) the pain of crushing your toes together in high heels tends to get old once (many) women mature.
Some, maybe even many, crossdressers love to wear heels. Many women do too. But most do not. Those are the facts. Being a woman doesn’t automatically mean you should wear shoes that don’t offer solid support, or may cause you to stumble around, and maybe fall on your face. If you want a sustainable look, I would respectfully suggest you look at other types of footwear. Nobody will think less of you if you’re aren’t wearing Jimmy Choo shoes.
- November 2, 2016 at 9:54 am #34169Anonymous
Great insights Julia. I’m thinking I do want to at least try a bra. As for the heels I wasn’t planning on getting a pair. I would want some boots, flats, or tennis shoes before heels. Like you said heels aren’t in most women’s everyday wardrobe. Heels would not be what I wore with the outfit I showed you.

I have this shoe, in the silver. (It’s hard to see, but if you go to my Media, they’re the shoes I’m wearing in that picture.) They’re comfy, so good choice.

Thank you Rose. I do think they would look cute with my outfit. What color would go well with it? It would be a pink shirt, red, or purple shirt and light blue jeans with a white scarf.

I’m the wrong person to ask about matching colors. It’s a huge weakness for me. I rely on my wife for a lot of help with it.
That said, Payless calls the color “silver” but to me it really looks more like a very light blue. Others will have to confirm, but I think it would look fine with any of the shirts you describe. (And that’s definitely true if you’re going to get the black pair instead of the silver; I’ll note the silver are on clearance sale, though. 🙂 )
- November 2, 2016 at 1:46 pm #34179Anonymous
Thanks Rose. I do like that there is a sale, not that the black ones cost that much extra. Black is such an easy color to match with. I’m just guessing with color matching myself. Though I have no one to help me. Glad your wife is able to help.

I rely on black, gray, and khaki in male mode. 🙂

Yep, I think so. Not sure about the scarves – like I said, not my thing so I’m not sure how they fit into “current” fashion. But the rest are cute and seem appropriate.

It seems like a lot of outfits have scarves this time of year so I included them. Plus I hear they work well for hiding an Adams apple. I think Steffani would look cute in a scarf.

The jeans are cute, but probably more than you need to pay by looking elsewhere. (If price is something you care about, of course.) The tops are both awesome. I like the second one – the lacy one – a bit more, but both would look great I imagine.

I bought several knit tops that are long and wear them as dresses. Think I saw them at Walmart for $9 each. I bought Red, Black,Yellow, Coral & Teal, I have gotten many compliments on them. I think it is key to know your strong features, legs or ass and work on refining your look. I like short skirts and thigh highs with heels. I also like the vintage look with petticoats, I just get the dresses shortened at a alteration shop.
