Being seen, in public

Sunday was an amazing day out with my Miss! I wore a faux leather skirt (not a mini, but not a midi either; maybe two or three inches above the knee), goldenrod tights, a leopard print top, and a long raincoat. I skipped the wig this time; it doesn’t fit well and gives me a headache after a while. I just wore my long, natural hair down, held back with hair band. Full makeup, but I did wear a mask. My wife complimented me on my makeup, particularly my eyes which felt nice because I really struggle with eye makeup. I have heavily hooded eyes and a heavy brow, so it’s challenging. I use mostly brighter colors and shimmers to open up my eyes, and mascara of course. She said she looks forward to the day when I’m comfortable without the mask because “your lipstick game is strong!” We browsed a quirky gift store where she had something on hold, and spent quite a bit of time in the store. Afterwards, we went to a boutique next door that has a lot of high-end fashions. The staff was very welcoming which made a huge difference in my comfort level. My wife went to try on a dress, leaving me alone in the store with all the GGs who were probably half my age, but it was all fine; no one batted an eye at me. (My wife says I look like a lady and unless I’m interacting with them they probably don’t look twice.) Then we went to have a drink and maybe dinner at the new drag lounge in our neighborhood, but we were a little early so we ducked into another boutique across the street. It was quite small and we were the only customers in the place. The clerk was super friendly and welcoming, saw how I was dressed and said “oh, do I have a skirt for you!” She set me up in the dressing room and started handing me a number of things to try. She was just awesome. She complimented me on my style, my legs (“legs for days like that, no wonder you like short skirts”), and while yes she’s a saleswoman she definitely SAW me. It was wonderful. I walked out with a new skirt and a gothy dress that my wife picked out that felt amazing, and it was buy one, get one; score! She said to us as we were leaving, “ok beautiful, come back soon, I have some new things for spring that will look amazing on you”. I was in heaven!
We went back to the drag lounge and had a drink. Most of clientele at that time were cishet men watching football and making a lot of noise, but then they’d apologize for getting out of hand. One of them bought a round for my wife and I. It was really fun. On the way home we stopped by our local, but it was just too crowded. A friend outside asked “what are you all dressed up for?” “No reason,” I said, “just felt like it.” What was most amazing about it was that it was the first time that someone looked beyond my crossdressing to see me, and then engaged with me around my sense of style.
I was a fine day out.

Thank you so much, Stephanie! To think that I went out en femme for the first time just three months ago is a real trip. The more we go out together, the more we want to do it. It’s amazing how quickly it starts to feel normal!

Thanks, Trish. She and I are very close,  as best friends, as husband and wife, and now as girlfriends. I don’t take a second of it for granted. I hope that your wife will find her way to greater support in time.
