In Canada, our winters tend to be long and cold, however, I always wear short skirts even in the coldest months. The changes I make are to wear the thicker style tights, high Moto boots and long winter coats.
I always have a snowsuit on the back seat of the car as well, not for reasons of femininity, as I’m sure you will understand.
For this winter, I have to find a feminine style toque to complete my outfit.
I hope this helps.

Not at all Christine, I found it highly amusing!
It always astounds me how hardy the girls up here seem to be… out in tiny dresses, barely-there sandals without tights or even a proper coat or jacket in freezing weather, relying on vodkas and Red Bull to keep their purple-blotched legs propelling them from tavern to tavern. Meanwhile I’d be huddled up in an overcoat. Descendants of Vikings, I suppose :)

It’s a little known fact that, post-pillage, many Vikings DID put on skimpy dresses and microskirts and lurch from bar to bar in search of the next Vodka and Red Bull. It must have been a major stress relief to be able to express their feminine side like this after a day of frenzied hacking.*
Oddly, this aspect of Viking behaviour seems to have been largely written out of history**
Hugs

*Apologies in advance to any Vikings who I have inadvertently offended by stereotyping them in this way.
** Alternatively, it may not appear in the history books because I’ve just made it up.

Your description of the viking girl are exactly my picture of an English teenage girl, skirts to short and top a little too small and the shoes absolutely not appropriate for the weather, maybe they all stem from the vikings. I could stop laughing reading your description. Yesterday SO and I went to town and the weather was cold and windy, we saw teenage girls wearing crop tops with thin shoulder straps and carrying a jacket or a sweater in one hand, and goosebumps all over and birkenstock sandals and bare feet. Maybe its just the way teenage girls act

I’m trying to think if we were like that when we were at that age, or whether I’m just getting old. The current fashion for wearing skin-tight athletic leggings with no socks in all weathers just makes me feel cold.

The boots have 3-5″ heels which keep these outfits very feminine and fun. Some of my dresses have long sleeves but I have a few sweaters to wear over the short sleeve/sleeveless ones. I have a couple long sleeve sweater dresses that are form fitting and quite flattering while keeping myself warm at the same time.
Enjoy shifting your wardrobe as the cooler weather rolls in!

I like to club so I’m not afraid of mini or sheer outfits. I do however realize that I could freeze in my car at midnight in a blizzard and I want to get to the event not chattering. So, usually I will wear good black tights, convenient winter boots that I will swap out at the door or the car and a big, long wool coat (usually black, red or green…BTW you can get these really cheap in Spring and save them for your next Winter). If it’s snowing I will usually include a hoodie to pull up over my hair and makeup so I don’t arrive looking slimed. Actually it’s usually kind of fun to get welcomed into a warm bar or dance coming from a snowy parking lot and then do a reveal in front of everyone by opening up the coat and busting out in a fun outfit. Anyway, that’s just how I roll in rural Wisconsin. Have fun and be practical. Marg

Nice tights, thick and warm are great. My favorite thing to see women wear is a cute red dress, and black tights with nice heels.
Absolutely adore that look, and wish I could pull it off!

I also lived stateside in northern New England.
One handy crossdressing technique I used to enable me to wear miniskirts was to wear a pair of flesh-colored tights, then over that I would wear a pair of sheer pantyhose. To the viewer, I was wearing sheer pantyhose over my bare legs. However, the flesh-colored tights would keep my legs quite comfy. Hint: Avoid cheap tights. Invest in good quality heavy winter duty tights.

Boots are also great too and I just adore my over the knee boots. I also like wearing long blazers. I have some that are even longer than my dresses and I like that look a lot.

DuchessRegistered On: October 15, 2018Topics: 18Replies: 1247Has thanked: 981 timesBeen thanked: 5268 timesThere are plenty of cold weather outfits you can wear. Try a sweater dress or a dress or skirt made of thicker material (like a velour). Wear a sweater top or a turtleneck. Layer your outfits by wearing a blazer or a cardigan on top, or perhaps a scarf. Wear longer (calf or ankle length) skirts. Wear boots that are higher than the hem of the skirt. Wear (opaque) tights.
If you are going to spend any significant time outdoors, you can wear an ankle length (maxi) coat. With this, you can even wear a shorter dress because the coat will keep you warm. Stylish gloves can even make your hands look slimmer.
Look at what they have in stores, and people watch to get ideas.

LadyRegistered On: January 31, 2023Topics: 2Replies: 78Has thanked: 40 timesBeen thanked: 351 timesIn my humble opinion, short skirts and dresses in the autumn and winter can be very stylish. Firstly I would choose the right material of the dress/skirt. It has to be a warm thick material such a wool. Best if the cut is tight fitting. This is then worn over thick opaque tights or stockings. Calf high or knee high boots would be appropriate. Tops, jumper or cardigan should also be warm material and can be loose preferably or tight fitting. Colours should be dark…black, blue, grey or brown. I think short skirts are better than short dresses for the winter.
Alternatively, if you are from North England, then just follow the girls styles there – ultra mini skirts/dresses, stiletto heel pumps, no stockings or tights, no coat – winter or summer. Them girls up north are hardy lasses.
happy dressing…
I am actually a girl from the north of England. I have to say that I wouldn’t dream of going out in cold weather without tights, although I do tend to favour the shorter skirt or dress length :)
I find that layering sheer tights is very effective for helping keep out the chill whilst still looking and feeling great. Opaque tights (40 denier and upwards) are also very nice when layered over a pair of sheer (10 – 20 denier) nude tights are very effective as the temperature drops. I have several fully-lined mini skirts which I like to team up with a nice sweater – worn over a sheer top for warmth, and a thin stretchy jersey top for when it gets colder.
Coats can be worn obviously – length depending on how much leg you want to show :)
Boots are always a good idea! I prefer knee-length or OTK, purely for the sexy element :D

Thank you for the reply and advice!I’ve noticed that I feel the most feminine and confident when wearing an outfit that’s daring (not inappropriate) but shorter dress lengths.
To compensate for the colder weather I will definitely try going with wool or body conforming skirts/dresses and thicker hosiery like you mentioned!
Thanks again!
