Needed to do some grocery shopping today, so I got dressed and headed to Walmart. Nothing over the top. Pastel striped maxi skirt, light green light weight hoodie, 2” heeled boots, wig, makeup, purse, and all the appropriate undergarments. Had fun browsing and picking up needed items, listening to the click of my heels on the hard floor. As I exited the store, the Salvation Army man doing the collections said “do you have anything to give, Ma’am?” Ma’am! Unfortunately I didn’t, but that definitely lightened my step a bit. Got to my car and was loading my shopping into the back. Just as I finished a gentleman stopped and asked “would you like me to take that cart for you young lady?” Young lady! I thanked him and he went on his way. Now, I suspect he was just being polite about the young part, since I am 64, but the lady part was genuine. Absolutely made my day! Also did wonders for my confidence and self esteem. I may never go shopping in drab again. Just kidding, I’m sure I will. But I won’t enjoy it as much. What a magnificent Christmas gift!

Loved your story Emily. And I know exactly how you feel. I so look forward to going for groceries. I go grocery shopping every Monday morning at 7:00 a.m. Wonderful time to shop as the lines at the checkout are usually extremely short. Anyway, the cashiers always call me “Ma’am” and one time, I had an older gentlemen flirt with me at the checkout (I’m 66). Definitely lightened my step that morning.
