I did it. That was quite a learning experience.

I first painted my finger nails around age 6 using my mom’s nail polish. Since then, I’ve painted a few fingers and always removed the polish before it fully dried. I know, what a waste.

I bought black nail polish 2 months ago after seeing many guys wearing black polish on finger nails, and after reading a few articles. My motivation was for covering pinky toe nails that had become discolored.

Some nerve hit in me today, continuing the last week’s steps forward. I have this bohemian dress that I want to wear out again this week with wedge sandals. So, time to dive in.

I started with 2 pinky toes, experimented with making the illusion of cute nails by only painting 90% of the nail. Not bad.

2 hours went by, family was all off doing their thing, it was time to dive deeper.

The rest of the 10 were painted. Things I learned:

      1. Use latex gloves to avoid staining fingers with minor brush strokes gone awry.
      2. Don’t panic, any mistakes can be touched up later with a q-tip dipped in nail polish remover.
      3. Definitely use toe spacers so you don’t have to sit frog footed.
      4. A flashlight is so useful for seeing the nail vs shadows.
      5. I need some surgeon’s or dentist’s magnifying glasses with a head lamp.
      6. No wonder my wife just goes to the salon. I can’t justify the pedicure cost yet for myself.
      7. Enjoy whatever happens. It’s not going to be perfect. It’s all part of learning.

Not bad for a first time. Can’t wait to wear those wedges out!

Do you have any tips to share?

      Lea –

How wonderful that you painted your toes.

Have you considered asking your wife to go for mani-pedi’s together? My wife and I do every few weeks. The first time we went I got clear polish on  my toes and fingers. It was in October and I joked that I should get black on my toes but went with clear. When we left the salon she told me I could have gotten color if I wanted. The next time we went I got red on my toes. She knew I dressed but didn’t want to see me, however, she thought the toes were nice. I only do it in the cooler months when I wear socks and shoes although I have had my toes exposed at the gym and a hotel pool without any issues. I think for the most part people don’t notice. The days we go for our mani-pedi’s are fun days out together.

You could consider asking your wife to go for mani-pedi’s together and see what she has to say.

Wonderful suggestion. Seems like this could be a gurl&girl bonding experience.

It’s just toe nail color after all 🙂 I’m contemplating getting my toes done in a natural, neutral color sometime, like a shade of tan or light pink blush. Nobody wants to see gross guy toes otherwise.

        • #775334

It is a wonderful gurl/girl bonding experience. I can’t help but think that it helped my wife in accepting my dressing to the point of spending whole days dressed with her.

Your choice of colors is good, especially to start. I get my fingernails done in a light pink blush, it’s not noticeable at all except for the shine.

          Have fun with it.

Thanks for the tips.  Love doing my nails and would love to do my toenails.  Just wish I could find some high heel peak-a-boo or high heel sandals that fit my Amazonian woman’s feet.  Size 13.

      • #775083

Flora, is that size 13 men or women? Size 13 for women are fairly easily found at Torrid dot com. I have some nice sandals & bootees from them.

I’m with you…painting toe nails is a pain! I much prefer to go to a salon to get mine done. You should go with your wife!

    • #775077

My wife and I often do each other. It is much easier to get smooth coverage when you do not have to bend land stretch. And it is great fun!

Very true. Bending and trying to see the angles is hard. Maybe someday.

Your right Jin, me and my wife do the same and we are having a fun girls night and she enjoys that its possible to do this together with her husband, although he is wearing a skirt and a blouse.

Lea, spend the money. My first pedi was more that 35 years ago, and believe me it’s the only way to go. Took me a few salons to find out the one best for me and been going to the same one for about 10 years now and Kevin is the best. Finally about 3 months ago I had him put polish on and now I’m total hooked and always looking forward to my next appointment, it’s a splurge that is totally worth giving myself.

Lea, I love painting my nails. I love going to a salon to get my nails done even as a guy I have had compliments on my nail, even from a few guys. I have seen many men wearing nail polish and I have in guy mode, but I love having pretty nails as a women. Makes me feel so feminine and pretty.

Woke up this morning, tried on strappy sandals again, OMG, cute. I can hardly contain my excitement. The black nail polish makes me feel bolder.

Why do we CDs feel so nervous doing something healthy.

Now to see how long I can keep the polish without feeling guilty since I’ll be wearing socks to hide it at home when the family is around.

I’m thinking of testing my neighborhood by running errands in guy mode with guy sandals. I doubt anyone would even notice 🙂

Great thread Lea! For me, I love painting my own toes, it’s all part of that getting ready experience that I just adore. I usually like to go with a light pink but I recently did a deep Cabernet red that looked really sexy with my clear strapped heels. Even when I’m just in my girly lounge look (yoga pants and flip flops), I love looking down and seeing my feminine toes. I do need to get a toe spacer though, so good reminder. I have thought about doing the press on pedicure kit at home but it kind of feels like cheating lol.

I love wearing painted nails in guy mode (and when en femme, of course.) I find nobody cares. I was just in Scotland traveling by myself and wore a deep cabernet red polish the whole time. The only comment I got was “I love your nail polish color”. When that was said the other woman at the counter said “Ohhh, I want to. see”, so I should hear and she loved it as well.

Lea, Another CA gal here too!!

I started painting my toe nails before I started crossdressing.  I wear sandals most all the time and believe that if you are going to wear sandals your feet should look nice.  My wife also concurs, she is a sandal gal too.  I/we have gotten regular pedicures for years (both professionally and on my own).  About 10 years ago I decided to go for it and started applying color.  It looked wonderful!  I prefer the reds, corals, blues and purple shades.

Surprisingly few folks notice or comment, but I like looking at my painted toes and sandaled feet.  My wife says that I have “girls” feet, love it.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your painted nails experience, now get out there and show off those toes.

      Have fun too, Staci…

Hi Staci it is so nice having painted toenails. I practically live in sandals. I get a professional pedicure every two weeks and my toes are almost always painted fire engine red and on display for everyone to see. Red toenails are so feminine especially with toe rings and strappy sandals. Sometimes when I am in the checkout like at a store, I have caught both men and women staring at them. One time I was in a Starbucks waiting for my latte and there was a guy that couldn’t take his eyes off my feet! I should have asked him if we liked the color and if he wanted a closer look. When I am having a bad day it really cheers me up to look down and see 10 sassy red toenails peeking out of my strappy sandals.

Lea do not hide you pretty toes from your family. Put on sandals and show those pretty toes! You will get a lot of compliments. If anyone asks you, tell them that you like having painted toes. It is that simple.

Ooo-la-la there is nothing like yoga pants and red toenails! Everyone in your yoga class will know that you are a girl! Red polish will make your toes sassy and flirty and you will feel really feminine. Add toe rings and it doesn’t get any better!

      Julie,

It is so true. Nothing feels better than showing off a pretty color in strappy sandals. It is so feminine. I am a feminine male so my nails are always painted bright red, hot pink, or Barbie pink.

      [postquote quote=775013]
      Suzanne,

You really should get out in sandals all of the time and show those pretty red toenails like a GG.  Don’t keep them hidden under socks. You will realize that it is not a big deal and that the fear is on your own mind. For me, red toenails are part of my signature look as a feminine male. Just put on your sandals and go about your normal business. You are not doing anything wrong and you will get a lot of compliments from women on those pretty toes.

      • #775926

Thank you for your reply. If it were only me I had to be concerned with I’d probably go for it. However, I have my wife to consider and out of respect for her and not wanting to lose her support I keep them hidden when out and about. I did have a dermatology appointment once and received compliments on my painted toes, and another time we were away and went to the hotel pool with my painted toes exposed. She was aware both times and okay with it. I think part of that was that we were away from home and didn’t know anyone at the hotel. With the dermatology appointment medical people are pretty discreet. I don’t know what the future holds, I take my  lead from her. She surprises me sometimes with what she suggests so I’ll just bide my time for now.

If times 2…. IF, my SO does not like anything to do with Caty, and IF.  the “whole ten” did not look like disaster areas, I’d probably give it a go.

Same again with finger nails. I used to love wearing false nails, but no matter how much I tried, I could not get them to stay on.

So the only nails in my life are the ones I use under a hammer…

      LOL

I love painting my toenails cherry red!!  Probably gives me the most fem feeling and love looking at them.  I usually paint them more in the winter time as I wear sandals alot in the summer.  But when we travel I will paint them and still wear my birkenstocks sandals ( my kids tell me they are the college girls choice of shoes..so I love that).  Was in a small store in Denver and the sales girl noticed and told me they looked great..a good feeling for sure.

Cherry red, a lovely color! I see a lot of women wearing birkenstocks…the nail color contrast looks great on the brown sandal background. Funny how a total dad shoe (with socks) was beautifully feminized. Just like many of us are 🙂

    • #776096

Just had a pedicure at my local nail salon today. OPI Big Apple Red. I was sitting between two big guys that were getting pedicure. The kept glancing over as the nail tech applied Fire Engine Red polish to my toes. I wonder what they thought when they saw that I have “toes like a lady”.

Pedicures with red or pink toenails are so relaxing and feminine but the best part is proudly showing off your nail polish in women’s sandals to everyone. It is so liberating and when everyone sees this red or pink toes, they know that you are playing for the girl’s team.

After my pedi, I put my women’s sandals back on and went back to work and compared my pedi to another girl that was wearing a similar color on her toes.

Love that story. Those two big, masculine men must have been in envy of you getting your toe nails painted. Red…oooh.

    • #776157

Just like your wife, I also simply go to the salon.

I was an overseas student first time I had a professional pedicure almost by accident: I had been peering through the display window of a beauty parlour at some beautiful lace panties (which they sold as a sideline) and eventually plucked up the courage to step inside to get a closer look.

The beautician suddenly stepped out from one of the treatment rooms and we started a conversation. I eventually bought two panties (which I later gave to my wife – then girlfriend) but she also talked me into getting a pedicure.

It was a wonderful experience and I was hooked for life. In later years, back in my hometown, I occasionally went for treatments at a beauty salon in the city where I also once had nail polish applied.

However, my now late wife was deep into make up (and the rest) and we’d have “beauty parlour sessions” at home together rather often. It became a way of life for me and after her sad passing, I continued doing DIY pedicures.

As I’ve grown older, I have lost some physical flexibility and steady-handedness and have begun to find the whole thing too tedious, so I have for the last two years been regularly visiting a day spa in my neighbourhood for pedicures – and other treatments.

      Love,
      Katherine

The wife and I are in Vegas, we visit here often.  Today we got pedicures at the Caesar’s Spa.  The wife got a purple color and I got a darker red color.  The technicians at the spa are pros, our nails sparkle and shine.  They look beautiful.

It’s fun showing off our pedicures together.

I have worn many different colors out and about on both fingers and toes and usually wear flip-flops and nobody seems to care and have gotten the occasional compliment and never a negative comment. I would do it more, but my wife is not too keen on me being out in public. She has never said no, and is fine with my dressing at home, but prefers I do not do it (and nails) in public. I still do go out, but solo and love it.

There is no reason why you can wear your polished nails 24/7. Show your wife all of the articles in men’s magazines about the popularity of men wearing nail polish. Just google for “men wearing nail polish “ and you will find all of these articles. Also check out the Reddit group r/malepolish.

I have been getting a mani/pedi every six weeks for the last two years. I have found a gal that has a private salon so it is only me there. She is great and fun to talk with. I get color on my toes all the time. On my fingers I use a nail strengthener and a top coat. My finger nails always have a shine to them and I rarely get any comments on them.

Good for you! I remember those days long ago when I thought everyone was looking at my toes, and how dare I wear color on them, now the last two decades they are out and about all the time, and every bold color I can find! The brighter sparkly pink the better! No one cares, and those that might I don’t give two rat butts what they think, strappy sandals and fun nail colors are awesome! We sometimes get pro pedies too, the salon we go to serves wine!

      Hi Ladies,
I have my toe nails done up most of the time. It’s mostly the DIY way, but after 15+ years I have gotten pretty good at it. I do like to show them off in whatever mode especially in the summer and go out of my way to have flip flops on around town. Pedi’s are nice every now and again, while getting pampered.

Love having my toes painted and on display.  Last week we were visiting in denver and I was able to dress and go out shopping  Had on girlie jeans with sandals and showing my painted toes.  Got lots of positive comments, all from women on how cute my toes were.  Absolutely loved the whole experience.

Yes, Denver is a very friendly town and open to alternatives. Next time you visit let me know, as I live in the area. We can both go out with painted toes… or more! Glad you had a good time.

Don’t worry about little mistakes, no one will notice from a trotting horse. Wash your nails before painting. The polish will stay on longer. Push your cuticles back before painting the nails . Now girl, listen up. Your wife knows. Get a pedicure and go nuts. I do.
