For you ladies who have not had hair removal on our face, what is your process for covering that? What foundation do you prefer?

I have not been using beard cover. I shave super close and then use a tiny bit of hand lotion and shave against the grain. That seems to look decent.

Im getting ready to step out for the first time and want to be as passable as I can of course. So maybe there is a better way…

      Anyone?

I do not use the product beard cover, but i do use concealer. It helps hide the shadow that can still show through. I Shave as you do with and against the grain and wet my hand and feel for anything i have missed. Once i am shaved i put on alcohol for any cuts or the like (aftershave if i do not mind not being to feminine). Then i put on lotion over my face helps hydrate. Them when it is kind of dry i put on concealer for on the areas that are most prominent dark areas. Basically the upper lip and chin area with some areas on the neck to remove the lines i do not like. This i blend out and let set or set with some translucent powder. I also apply a little concealer to the underside of the eyes and the eyelids this helps hide the dark circle area and give some primer for the eyelids. I know i should use primer but do not get to dress enough to merit buying it. Then i can apply my foundation using a brush. I am careful not to drag over the concealer areas to much to thin the concealer, but it stays on pretty good. I have just lately purchased an orange color concealer. I am going to try and use this on my dark areas and blend it out to see if it will help hide the beard shadow a little more. Good luck hun, hope this helps. FYI concealers are small containers and you do not need to use much. I only apply it with the applicator and blend it out with my finger.

I do not. I’m lucky enough to not have a thick beard (I couldn’t grow a full beard if I wanted to).  I just shave very close and against grain and use regular foundation.

I shave as you do, and i don’t have a thick beard so it works for me. I finally bought an airbrush makeup machine and i find that this covers the face pretty good.

Hi Jenifer, how do you like your airbrush makeup applicator? Are you still using it? I’m looking for opinions from women who have use them before I jump in. Thanks.

So I start with a super close shave, and then a pore primer, followed with a wet foundation to cover the beard color. The end!

I do have a thick but because of my age it’s mostly white except around the mouth. After priming, I use a lite pink cream blush around the mouth follow by a medium foundation.

The key is getting the right foundation for your complexion. I used to buy over the counter foundations until I went to a cosmetic counter in a department store. I went to Estee Lauder counter in a Macy’s. I had been going out enfemme a couple years and felt confident enough to talk to someone I didn’t know. The woman was very friendly and cleaned my face and tried a foundation that matched my complexion. I know this sounds very easy. The biggest thing is getting over the fear. I have since changed to Sephora because of the support they have showed to our community.

At this point in my life I’ve gone rather grey, so don’t need beard cover so much, though I do use foundation which is effective at hiding the last vestiges of facial hair.

      Hi Kristi!

      Hope you’re well.

I have a very similar routine. Shave as close as possible. Moisturiser afterwards.

Once all settled, start off with primer to fill the gaps. Once in, I use my tried and tested Max Factor Pan Stick. Coverage is brilliant, especially for the beard cover. Max Factor have sold this for decades, it’s brilliant! Once blended in, apply a liquid foundation and wait for setting. Finish with loose powder and a touch of bronzer and job done!

      Hope this helps.

No beard cover, just concealer and foundation and sometimes I skip the concealer…

I went to a Sephora for advice and got color matched with Clinique Beyond Perfection Foundation and Concealer.  I use a orange lipstick after primer to color correct my dark beard.  I can never shave close enough to get rid of the beard color.

I shaved my beard for the first time in 25 years two days ago. My wife asked if I was thinking of trying makeup… I said yes.
It’s a big and scary step for me. I was going to go to Sephora today and get some pointers, and enquire about makeover, but schools are still closed because of the blizzard last week, so I am home with my little boy.

I’ll be watching this thread because for me there is no such thing as a 5’oclock shadow, the shadow is permanent, no matter how close I shave. So I’ll need something to cover that!

Hi, I have a fairly heavy beard growth and also double shave as you do to get as smooth as possible for as long as possible. I have used Kryolan Derma Color Camouflage creme applied after primer and before foundation. The shade I use is D32 – It’s quite dark and reddish in colour to counteract the sometimes blue tint of the skin with the beard shadow but looks good after the foundation goes over it – I would recommend watching Juliette Noir on YouTube as she also uses this product as part of an overall process and explains it as she goes . . there is another company called Veil Cover Cream who also have a range of cover products for concealing uses – this was recommended to me by a make up artist in the UK – they do tester packs so for very little cost you have see what colour range you are – they are available on Amazon for £7.99.       I also use YSL Touche Eclat around my eyes for the infamous dark circles . .   I think you have to try some things out and see what works for you  . .  I had a private make up lesson which gave me a lot of insight in to the general techniques for covering and sculpting the face to look more feminine and what would suit my skin and colouring. Still doing the 10000hrs of practice   . . .  LOL

      hope this helps

General question to one and all if I may… Would a detailed video on beard cover be of any use to anyone I know there are loads on the net but not many go into specific details about the issue? I’m not sure if light refraction and why we see the beard matters to some people, but I believe if you know why then it helps you to focus on techniques that work for you. Normal high street light/medium coverage foundation alone does not work and there is a reason for that.

      Hi Kristi,

I know this is difficult and I have no idea where you live in the world but I would recommend that you visit a professional makeup place or counter in a store as a male. I use Lancome products and have met and talked with around 50 of there specialists and all are more then welcome to happy to help a male choose the correct products. They do not judge you and will help with the correct products and colors for your skin tone.

Go early when they are less busy, you will be finished in no time and happy you went.

Everybody is different in what is required so read and decide if recommendations from their experience will work from you, but if your serious about going out in public pro help is best.

If possible I highly recommend professional makeup lessons. It will be worth every penny you spend and likely one of the best investments in Kristi.

before getting my laser hair removal use to use a product called Dermablend still use it for concealing scares and scratches.

    • #492007

Yes, I definitely use beard cover.  In fact, I have to use a few of them, as my stache is quite wiry and dark coloured.

Other than shaving in the shower using very warm water and soap, I use this regime when transforming into Wendy :

      – Nyx colour corrector, orange.

      – mehron beard cover.

      – hard candy heavy concealer

      – dermablend concealer

      – annabelle colour corrector, peach.

      – then finally foundation.  All of that does cover up beard well, but sadly unless I choose to laser it all off the wiry “stubble” are still somewhat noticable.

I’m blessed with a light beard, and if I shave with a blade instead of electric razor, the only beard shadow I have is on my upper lip. A bit of blush makes it vanish, and I am good all day.

Concealer is a vital tool if you are dressed for a long period of time and your stubble grows fast and dark!

As orange as you can get, with foundation over the top to mask it.

I use moisturiser, then primer, to smooth out some of the crags, 2 shades of foundation; light to enhance the middle of my face and provide the illusion it’s smaller than it actually is, with a blended darker shade around the perimeter – and brushed as well as possible for a light, fine, smooth, hopefully natural looking finish.

I have been using contouring to further enhance the feminine illusions – reducing the brow and nose, widening the eyes, enhancing the cheekbones and so on.

I’m really enjoying the artistic side of makeup and would happily spend hours experimenting, if it wasn’t for the precious time I could be spending out doing something!

Hence my attempts at makeup have been rather amateur to date – but I know what to do on a rainy day…

      Love Laura

Don’t really have to – Had several sessions of laser on my face on my face 10+ years ago and the dark hair on my beard is gone. Just a easy shave and my face is hairless for two days. Still good to use foundation as any woman would. Neat. 🙂

I use Dermaflage Full Coverage Concealer Cream but I’ve only just gotten back into makeup so I’ve only tried this. It came highly recommended on some CD focused sites.
