Both myself and my wife have become hooked on the series Gentleman Jack, a drama based on the decoded diaries of an 18th Century cross dressing lesbian woman.

It’s gripping stuff, and offers much wisdom to cross dressers and gender/sexuality fluid people of any description.

Anne Lister must be one of the most fascinating people in history – not least because she chose to document her life.

No, Laura I haven’t but It’s sounds interesting I’m certainly going to check it out.

Thanks for the recommendation, Laura! Judging from the clips and trailers on Youtube, this is definitely something I want to see. It seems to be on HBO here in the US, but I’m not an HBO subscriber, and it must be too new to be available on Netflix USA.

I’m a big fan of the BBC productions of the Jane Austen novels, and Gentleman Jack seems to be about the same time period.

I’ll keep a lookout for its appearance in my Netflix DVD option.

Have not watched it yet, but Gwenn and I are interested in watching it.  So guess I will see if we can bring it up higher in the back log of stuff to watch.

      😉

I’m hooked on it too, Laura. A brilliant series and really well made – love the directing style.  A wonderful character, fighting brilliantly against the opinions of the times – many of which haven’t really changed much.

All in all – love it!

It seems to be getting better!

It’s hard to remember that this is a dramatisation of a real person’s diaries and not a modern day morality tale dressed up (sic) as a costume play.

        Loving it!

I need to get out less as I thought Gentleman Jack was an alcoholic beverage.

And a delicious one at that…

Getting out more is good, especially in a sun dress in the weather we’re having!

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Sailor Jack, Kraken or Woods please more of a rum than Whiskey girl myself, like Jamesons though. The dress code sounds good.</p>

Yes! My women’s chat group meets once a month to watch 2 episodes. So far we’ve seen the first 6. Fascinating woman! However, I would wonder if by the time you dug through all the clothes and petticoats if you weren’t Out Of The Mood?!?!

Those diaries seem to suggest that ‘current’ attitudes may not be all that current. There have been tolerant people in all ages, and, sadly, intolerant people standing in the same street. This world doesn’t progress much, does it. Ah well! Back in the trenches Sian. Love to all!

A subset of my Women’s Chat Group is patiently waiting for Season 2. It is a fascinating story of a distinctly unique person. In current times Anne Lister would be someone that people would gravitate to, without doubt.

Her relatives seem to be quite supportive, with the exception of her sister. However, I think her sister’s issues are perhaps more related to an older sister/younger sister dynamic.

The amazing thing is that all of this information could have been lost had the diary been destroyed, as one cousin suggested. Surely there must be some other long buried stories out there waiting to be uncovered. At any rate, it is comforting to know that, as always, we stand on their shoulders…
