I do not know if it has actually been written, but I have seen many references to, “All Dressed Up With No place to Go!” Probably in the Blues genre.

      Araminta.

“Travelin’ Thru” by Dolly Parton from the movie “Transamerica”. Or maybe it’s just because I’m crazy in love with Dolly Parton.

Another is the song “Quiet” by MILCK. Michelle Liefde wrote about it in a “Media Review” article. There is an associated youtube video that is heartrendingly beautiful. Just Google “MILCK – Quiet (Official Video)”.

A long time ago, I heard Queen singing “Spread Your Wings”, but I heard it in a different way than I ever had before.  I knew the words before then, but I just had to hit repeat a few times to hear what they said in a much different way than most people around me did.  I really do believe that it is a sort of song saying it is okay to be different from normal, like we girls are, and to just go for it in our lives.

      Give it a listen

      Hey Gang,

How can it be anything other than Billy Joel’s (theme for “Bosom Buddies,” 1980-82) “My Life?”  Tom Hanks & Peter Scolari in drag.  Great story line, costumes, and gags!  As a still-developing CD, I knew why it resonated with so many.  Wouldn’t we all have loved the opportunity?

Hmmm I think off the top my head “somebody told me” by the Killers. The line in it goes” somebody told me that you have a boyfriend who looks like a girlfriend ” …. I never tried to analyze those lyrics but now that I am quite partial to dressing as a woman I have a new view of that song lol

Pink’s “Raise Your Glass” is the song I did my one actual drag performance to, so that’ll always hold a special place for me.

Probably Lola by Ray Davies and performed by the Kinks.
I think it’s more sentimental because it’s the first one I heard and realized there must be a lot more people like me for someone to bother to write songs about them.

Its so hard to pick just one but I like “Born this way” by Lady Gaga. Although,  the first song to pop in my mind was Aerosmith “Dude looks like a lady”

    • #405486

I had to think hard on this one for quite awhile, but I narrowed it down to 2

I copy/pasted the lyrics from Google, hope that’s not violating any rules or laws

1.reo speedwagon- i can’t fight this feeling anymore

I can’t fight this feeling any longer
And yet I’m still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show
I tell myself that I can’t hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
‘Cause I feel so secure when we’re together
You give my life direction, you make everthing so clear
And even as I wander, I’m keeping you in sight
You’re a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter’s night
And I’m getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can’t fight this feeling anymore
I’ve forgotten what I started fighting for
It’s time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
‘Cause I can’t fight this feeling anymore
I’ve forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor, come crashing through your door
Baby, I can’t fight this feeling anymore
My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I’ve been running ’round in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I’m following you, girl
‘Cause you take me to the places that alone I’d never find
And even as I wander, I’m keeping you sight
You’re a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter’s night
And I’m getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can’t fight this feeling anymore
I’ve forgotten what I started fighting for
It’s time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
‘Cause I can’t fight this feeling anymore
I’ve forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor, come crashing through your door
Baby, I can’t fight this feeling anymore

      and

      2.alice in chains-nutshell

      We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
      And yet I fight
      And yet I fight
      This battle all alone
      No one to cry to
      No place to call home
      Ooh
      Ooh
      Ooh
      Ooh
My gift of self is raped
      My privacy is raked
      And yet I find
      And yet I find
      Repeating in my head
If I can’t be my own
      I’d feel better dead
      Ooh
      Ooh
      Ooh
      Ooh

This is pretty deep thought, The other day while listening to Pandora, my station “The Knack” a song from the Cars came on “All Mixed Up” and the words sound like what’s going on in my mind. On one shoulder there’s my fem self in a pink cloud, on the other is my male self in a gray cloud talking to each other to see who wins? I’m in the middle “All Mixed Up”. Check it out , see if you here the same meaning I love the music from this time period, lots of good memories. Sometimes wish I could go back!
