Settle down, settle down, not that sort of PVC subject. Well here I was sat in my conservatory Saturday afternoon taking a well earn tea break, with some biscuits to dunk. Then out of the corner of my eye I spotted movement, well there was beautiful grey squirrel running across the power lines like a true professional trapeze artist, un- phased by the sheer drop below. I had a small chuckle to my self, a comic vision of Stephanie Plumb’s dog 2poos uni-cycling like a bat out of hell chasing it along the power lines. Then with an amazing leap this little squirrel launch itself into the large fir tree at the end of the garden. I watched  intriguingly as the squirrel sat there for minute, then disappeared into the foliage. What happened next had me laughing in my chair, the little squirrel had dived into the home of the local Jackdaws. Now began a game of chase, now you see me, now you don’t, every so often the squirrel would peep out, dive back in and emerge elsewhere, followed  by angry Jackdaws that couldn’t quite keep up. This went on for some time, indeed many more Jackdaws turned up to engage in the chase.  It was comic keystone cops brilliant. Then without warning the little squirrel shot out like a bullet and landed upside down on the telegraph pole, motionless, leaving the Jackdaws to continue the chase alone. Quick as a flash the squirrel jump on to the garden fence, by this time I had guessed it was heading for the bird table, but then it stopped dead in its tracks, instead of running across the last three panels, it slowly walked along the top sniffing them, for these panels you see were new ones I had fitted in the morning, obviously this was a moment that hit the caution button in its recognition system. Once satisfied the last leap to the bird table and the  rewards  upon it, much to the disgust of the bird population.

Lovely story Amanda, and congrats on the clever placement of PVC in the title – way to lure in unsuspecting readers, if I may make a small suggestion don’t dispel the illusion in the first line – keep em guessing till the end…..😲

Hi Amanda, yes that certainly sounds entertaining.  And educational.  I had no idea what a Jackdaw was so to the Internet I headed to look it up. I see it is related to our Magpies which play with our squirrels here in NW Canada.  I just finished my cup of tea a few minutes ago and drats, I forgot to have some biscuits to dunk in it.  Also a well earned tea break after vacuuming the two lower levels of our four level split house.  I’ll have another tea after supper and I will definitely remember the biscuits at that time!!!  All the Best, Hugs, Krista.

Gosh Krista you have been busy. Yes Jackdaws as you rightly point out are related to magpies, very hardy birds too. Many here in the UK actually love to build their nests in chimneys which is OK in flues that you do not use, but annoying in flues that are being used as they completely block them.

Thank you Stephanie, yes they seem to be extremely agile, and very clever in working out how to achieve what they want, and how to get there . Extremely clever in taunting as you and poor 2poos know.
