      Hello ladies,

I was wondering if anyone on here has any information on which resources there are out there that can help me out financially so that I can move out of my family home and into a place where I am free to be myself. Unfortunately I am not in a stable enough financial position to afford my own place. I am currently living paycheck to paycheck and I cannot afford rent anywhere in my area. I was hoping that maybe there are some non profit organizations out there that can help out in finding me some roommates or something where I wouldn’t need to pay as much as the rent costs around me. I’m already 31 and I’m really wanting to find my own place already. 31 is too old to still have to hide my crossdressing from my parents. They already told me that I will never be allowed to crossdress as long as I’m still living with them. I have hidden this part of myself for too long already and I am sort of desperate at this point to finally move out. If anyone can help me out by directing me to any and all appropriate resources that help out in these kinds of situations I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!

P.S: I make too much to qualify for food stamps or section 8 housing so it would need to be something that doesn’t require one of those situations.

      Hi Angelica,

I’m sorry you are going thru difficult times with your living situation.  I agree the time to get out is now.  Nobody should have to live in a toxic environment.

As you’ve discovered, being CD/trans can be challenging.  Asking for help when you need it is smart.  But please understand that you may need to fend for yourself someday.  Be resourceful.  Be an advocate for yourself.

You’re fortunate to be living in Chicago.  There are plenty of resources to help get you started.  Here’s a few I found with a quick search using this query: Chicago transgender resources.

      https://chicagogender.org/

      Best of luck to you.
      Hugs, Emily

Emily, the wise Oracle of CDH.  What would we do without you.

        Hugs,

        Steph
