Hey girls! Anyone know a good read with CD/TG as a protagonist? Recent “The Danish Girl” comes to mind (as book). Also for Sci-Fi and fantasy: John Varley’s “Steel Beach” and Piers Anthony’s “Crewel Lye.” Larry Niven had a very peripheral character who was TG in one of his short stories in “Flatlander.” I’m looking for more. Anyone have recommendations?

Stephanie I strongly recommend ‘The Secret Life of Luke Livingstone’ by Charity Norman. It is an excellent, well-written book. I offer a caution though. If you didn’t make it through ‘The Danish Girl’ without shedding a tear or seven then you’ll need a couple of boxes of tissues for this one.

Personally, because I identified so strongly with the main character, I had to stop reading now and then to get my emotions back under control. It is a powerfully moving story that I think many of us will associate with.

      The Goodreads review says:
“Luke Livingstone is a lucky man. He’s a father and grandfather, a respected solicitor, a pillar of the community. He has a loving wife in Eilish, children who adore him and an idyllic home in the Oxfordshire countryside.

But Luke is struggling with an unbearable secret, one that is close to destroying him. All his life, Luke has hidden the truth about himself – a truth so fundamental that it will shatter his family, rock his community and leave him an outcast.

Luke has nowhere left to run. He must either end his life, or become the woman he knows himself to be – whatever the cost. His family is tested to its limits, as each of them is forced to consider what makes a person essentially themselves. What do you do when you find that your husband – your father, your son – is not who you thought? Can you ever love him again?

A beautiful and dramatic portrayal of a family in turmoil.”

The book is well worth finding.

I found copies of the book on Abe Books (abebooks.com) offered for sale in the US (1) and Australia (2).   Charity Norman also has some other books which may have a similar theme (the book descriptions on Abe Books tends to tell you little about what is in the book and more about the condition of the book).  I’ve ordered a couple and will post once I have read them.
