Looking to retire to North Coast of California or Oregon

Here is the core of it, I am 60 yrs old looking to move to Oregon after my mother goes into a nursing home for she has Dementia or ALZ . I am her sole caregiver and she is 86 yrs old. So I would like to retire to the North or Lost Coast of California. So I am looking for apartment of my own or move in with somebody. Or should I say after she dies. So I would love to hear your ideas or suggestions.

Hi Judy!  So sorry to hear about your mum. When she passes on there is no reason why you cannot move to you desired location.  I imagine that youn have already done research on the areas you desire. See if the internet has copies of newspapers from locales you like. I would not believe internet advertising about how great a place is…..usually is balony. When you find a place that looks viable……..dig into crime statistics and general going-ons in that place. If you know someone there….or even our girls on site….ask them for the real skinny on the place. Find out where not to rent in any area and so on.

Hopes this helps…..it does for me….I have moved around a lot! My mum is “out tere somewhere” too….she is 95! I am with strike distance (500 miles) of her and siblings are a lot closer. She refuses to go into a home where she can be looked after. Frustrating beyond belief.
