Rodriguez earned her history-making nomination with her role in ‘Pose.’ Though hers is the first nomination for a trans performer in a major category, it marks the third time a trans actor has been nominated overall. Laverne Cox was nominated in 2014 for a guest role, and Rain Valdez was nominated in 2020 in the short form category.

MJ Rodriguez made Emmys history as the first trans woman to earn a nod for Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
